Senior School Years 9 - 12

Year 10 Work Experience in Action!

Work Experience was in full swing this week, and our students made a fantastic impression in a wide range of workplaces across the community.

Marcus and Caden were off to a strong start, working together extremely well and quickly picking up new skills. They learnt how to load a cassette as part of their placement and showed great focus and initiative. Both students demonstrated excellent behaviour in the workplace, maintaining a positive attitude, following instructions, and putting in a strong effort each day. It’s been wonderful to see their engagement and willingness to learn - they did doing a fantastic job.

Year 9's Start Planning!

Year 9 students should start thinking, because next year, this will be you. This week we had 199 students on Work Experience, stepping beyond the classroom and exploring the real world. This experience gives students the chance to try something new, discover their interests, and gain a better understanding of what their future might look like.

Students secured placements across an incredible range of industries. Some worked with young children in primary schools and early learning centres, while others gained hands-on experience in trades such as building, electrical, plumbing, and manufacturing. For those who enjoy problem-solving and working with tools, there were exciting opportunities in engineering and automotive settings.

Other students explored careers in healthcare and community services, working in medical centres, pharmacies, and aged care facilities, where they learnt the importance of helping and supporting others.

Many also took on roles in retail and hospitality, including supermarkets, cafés, and restaurants, building confidence, communication skills, and an understanding of how busy workplaces operate.

Animal lovers were busy in veterinary clinics, farms, and animal care services, while those interested in business, technology, or creative pathways explored opportunities in offices, IT companies, and media settings. There were even placements in fitness centres and sporting organisations for students who enjoy staying active.

Work Experience is about more than just the job. It helps students build confidence, develop real-world skills, and begin to understand their strengths and interests. It is often the first step in shaping future pathways and career decisions.

This year, students worked incredibly hard to secure their placements, and we are already receiving fantastic feedback from employers about their attitude, effort, and adaptability. We are very proud of how well they stepped up to the challenge and represented the College.

We look forward to hearing more about their experiences when they return and sharing further highlights in the next newsletter.

Year 9s should start imagining where they could go. Your opportunity is just around the corner and some of the most saught after places will requirey you to apply this year.

Year 10 Uni & TAFE Tours

Wednesday 24 June

As part of our careers program, all Year 10 students will take part in University and TAFE Tours Week 10 of Term 2. This exciting opportunity allows students to step onto real campuses and begin exploring their options for life after school.

Tours are designed to give students a first-hand experience of tertiary education, helping them better understand what university and TAFE pathways look like.

By visiting campuses, speaking with staff and students, and seeing facilities up close, students will gain valuable insight as they begin thinking about their future.

Students have already submitted their tour preferences, and groups will be finalised by the end of this week. Once confirmed, full details, including tour locations and departure/return times, will be available on Compass.

To ensure students can attend, parent/carer consent is required. Families are asked to log in to Compass and provide permission as soon as possible so we can finalise transport and supervision arrangements. If you need assistance with Compass, please contact the General Office.

This is a compulsory excursion at no cost to families, as we believe every student should have the opportunity to explore further education options and discover the wide range of courses and career pathways available to them.

Whether students already have a plan or are still deciding on their direction, this experience will support informed subject choices and help shape their next steps.

We look forward to a valuable and engaging day of learning beyond the classroom!
