7C have just kickstarted their painting unit and they're having lots of fun using acrylic paint to learn about colour theory. In class, they created a colour wheel by experimenting with primary colours (red, yellow and blue) and used it to create secondary and tertiary colours.

7H Students have been exploring painting through binary values, unpacking how to translate and create visually engaging imagery using only two colours. Through this process, students have not only flexed their creative muscles, but also refined their technical skills to create unique, bold, and engaging artworks.

This term, the Systems students have been learning and working with circuits, exploring the ins and outs of how systems and components within systems function. The students are currently building their own circuits for a character of their own design, implementing hand-painted panels alongside a flashing light circuit, giving each student’s design a brilliant level of theatricality!

Recently, our Year 11 & 12 Art: Making and Exhibiting students explored Melbourne CBD and discovered the diverse public, commercial and alternative gallery spaces and exhibition environments that are available.

Students visited Hosier Lane and Degraves Street as examples of alternative art spaces; the Ian Potter Centre at NGV Australia (including the Top Arts exhibition) and NGV International as public gallery spaces; and Flinders Lane Gallery as a commercial gallery, just to mention a few. Through these visits, students developed an understanding of the distinct characteristics and purposes of each gallery type, and how curatorial decisions shape audience interpretation of artworks.
Additionally, the annual Top Arts exhibition offered students valuable insight into the work of emerging artists from across Victoria who had recently completed their VCE studies, supporting connections between their own artmaking practices and contemporary student exemplars.
