Principal's Report

Tim Mulhall - Principal

You blink, and it's already here! It's hard to believe that we are a week away from the end of term, which brings me to an important reminder!

The last day of term is Thursday the 28th of March, and we will finish at 2:30 pm. We will conclude the day with an assembly at 2:00 pm.

Breakfast Club

Our breakfast club has been an enormous success! Students come along and enjoy a variety of breakfast foods while relishing the company of other students across the school. It is a wonderful environment that sends students off to class with a smile and a full belly.

Thank you to all those volunteers who help support this worthwhile program. One of our sessions swelled to 45 students - what a turnout!!!

If there are any other volunteers who could donate 20-30 minutes of your time on a Thursday morning, could you please reach out to the office? We would appreciate any help we can get to support the breakfast club and the students who attend.

Emergency Management Drill

On Tuesday the 26th of March, we will be participating in a whole-school emergency management drill. During this practice evacuation drill, we will evacuate our whole school to the oval. It is important to note that these drills usually occur once a term. This particular drill is a notified one. There will be more to come that you will be notified of after the students practice. We will practice a variety of drills across the year with different surrounding conditions. This is an important element of ensuring we have an effective Emergency Management Plan. We look forward to supporting our students through this event.

Child Safety and Wellbeing at Marlborough Primary

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

We have reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view at http://marlboroughps.vic.edu.au/policies/

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures, and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please contact the school to talk with me.

Baby News

Please join me in wishing Jenny Turner and her family all the best over the coming weeks as they prepare to welcome a new baby to their family. A very exciting time! Jenny has done a wonderful job in Grade 1/2 in 2023 and in the science specialist role in 2024.

With this news, we will have Jenelle Seregin expand her role at the school. Jenelle will now take on the science specialist role, where she has had experience in years past. We look forward to seeing Jenelle at MPS full time.

Welcome back, Tracy

You might have noticed another familiar face around the school this week. We welcome back Tracy Mullenger to the Education Support Team. Tracy brings years of experience, community knowledge, and passion to her role in the classroom. We are delighted that she has returned to Marlborough to support our students.

School Council

With the recent nomination process complete, we welcome some new faces to the school council. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Simon Vistarini and Colleen Wait, who will be joining the school council as parent representatives.

With this news, we also see some representatives finishing their term of service. I would like to thank Kelly Hamilton and Ebonie Rio for your service to the school. Your dedication to serving the students and the surrounding community through your school council roles has been impactful and is very much appreciated.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all our Grade 3 and 5 students who participated, tried their best, and have now finished their NAPLAN testing.

Shop for Your School Competition

This made me smile! Another example of how mighty the MPS community are. We were sitting first on the leaderboard last week, and now, we currently sit in second. Keep going everyone! Encourage as many of your friends and family to get behind the school and assign their fresh food receipts from Eastland to MPS.

First prize is $10,000, second is $7000, and third is $3000. All of which would make a big difference to our school.

School Holiday Time = Kid Time

If we don’t run into each other beforehand, I wish you a safe and enjoyable school holiday period. Again, during this time, I look forward to spending some quality time with my own kids. I hope you get a chance to do the same.

See you in Term 2.

Warmly,

Tim Mulhall
