International Transgender Day of Visibility (Thursday, 28th March)
Carlton North Primary School is committed to being safe, inclusive and welcoming for all people in our wonderful community. It's important to work with students to acknowledge, explore and celebrate diverse identities. We aim to foster a safe, respectful and inclusive community by acknowledging and/or celebrating a variety of cultural events that happen throughout the year, as well as by teaching the mandated Respectful Relationships (RR) curriculum.
International Transgender Day of Visibility is happening on Sunday, March 31st and is being acknowledged at CNPS this Thursday.
For many gender diverse people, a lack of representation, role models, and community can be isolating and make it difficult to feel proud of their identities. Initiated in 2009, International Transgender Day of Visibility is a day of pride and celebration for gender diverse identity, achievements, and community.
You can find more information and resources here.
We are also inviting anyone who would like to support the day to wear rainbow colours or colours of the transgender flag!
Lots of Socks Fundraiser for World Down Syndrome Day
The SRCs would like to announce our next fundraiser Lots of Socks! After the wonderful participation and display of inclusion as a CNPS community, we are thrilled to take part once again in Lots of Socks Day! The aim of this fundraiser is to raise awareness and donations for Trisomy 21- more commonly known as Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome is a genetic condition – it is not an illness or disease. It occurs because of an extra chromosome. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells. There are 23 pairs of chromosomes, or 46 chromosomes, in every cell. Down syndrome is caused by the occurrence of an extra chromosome, chromosome 21.
On Friday the 19th of April, the SRCs have decided to use the Lots of Socks theme created by Down Syndrome International and celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (nationally recognised on March 21).
All children are individuals and unique and have their own emotions, interests, abilities and characteristics that make them unique. The idea behind the Lots of Socks initiative is that all types, shapes, sizes of the same thing can be unique in their own way, and do the same thing. At CNPS we value each and every child and act upon one of our key core values- inclusion. We hope that this fundraiser will showcase this.
On April 19, we are inviting you to wear socks as colourful as they can be or even mix and match socks and bring in a gold coin donation. We encourage you to have them as bright, colourful, short or long as you want! We invite you to add even more flair and wear bright and colour clothes to match with your socks!
We can’t wait to see all the different Lots of Socks!
