Year 1 News

From Karen, Year 1 teacher

Math

Students have been learning to count collections up to 120 and understanding place value. We practised skip counting by 10s, and played various Math games to support students’ learning in this area.

At the start of one of our Math session, the Year 1 teachers grouped all the Year 1 students together and asked them what was the best way to count all the students in the cohort. We figured out at the end that grouping in 10s was the most efficient way, and we counted out loud together that there were 93 Year 1 students on that day. It was so much fun!

Writing

Students have been making information booklets about an animal or a made-up animal of their choice. Each day we had a different topic to focus on (appearance, diet, habitat etc.) and wrote a new page in their book. The students are really proud of their work and have put in a lot of effort into their little booklets!
