Hiking, caving, river sledding, mountain biking and leadership skills! Camp was an experience like no other. Hiking was a wonderful trek through a beautiful
and stunning rainforest. Caving involved a thrilling adventure underground. Some people even saw some glow worms! River sledding was an exciting and scary journey through rippling rapids. Mountain biking was a fantastic trip along an old rail trail. My group was lucky enough to get icy poles when we reached our destination!
And last but not least we learnt leadership skills, fun and challenging games that needed teamwork to complete and or win. We slept in tents with either one or two friends and that ended with not having very much space! It was cosy though! Jeff was in charge of our food and provided yummy and enjoyable meals. This camp was super fun and the Year 5 students have a lot to look forward to!

I waded through the knee-deep water, every step taking me further into the black abyss. The light emitting from my head torch seemed to dance and fade in the darkness. I turned off my torch, and looked up into an entirely different universe. In the one spot, lots and lots of dull green dots glowed in the dark. Glow worms. Smiling down on us in the darkness. An experience I will never forget.
I was in Group one and it was an early start. Everyone arrived at school at 7:30am and the bus left on time at 8:00am. When we got to camp, everyone was hyped up. Ready for the activities.
My first activity and my favourite was caving. We started off congregating on a flat granite boulder to split into two groups. One group for unsure cavers, and another group for people who wanted a challenge. I was in the challenge group. In our group, we went down a small cave opening and explored the deep dark depths of the cave. We met up with the other group underground, and had fun lighting sparks by rubbing bits of quartz together. The entire cave experience was a few hundred meters of mystery. Everyone rejoiced when we re-emerged to bright sunlight.
A common favourite was river sledding. We were on little inflatable rafts roaring down the rapids on the river. At first we paddled around while our instructor explained how to turn and slow down.
Afterwards we tried some of the little rapids and ended with the grand finale. Everyone loved it and we went flying down. You had to be careful that you didn’t turn sideways and get flipped off! It was an incredible experience.
After a jam-packed day one, we all returned to our tents and then had dinner. The tents were quite small and barely enough room for three people. They were quite cosy and it was a fun experience. There was also time after dinner for a game of “MIDNIGHT TAG!!”, even though it wasn’t midnight.
On day two, my group started the day off with Leadership Skills. We started off with an activity where everyone stood on top of a mat and we had to somehow flip over the mat without leaving it. It involved a lot of teamwork but in the end we got it done. We also did a few other activities like an obstacle course.
In the afternoon we did a 'hike', which was mainly walking through the forest for a few minutes and admiring our surroundings. We saw sassafras and tall trees (I don’t remember what trees they were). We then went up to the mountain summit and walked up a tall sightseeing tower to look at the view.
On the last day, we did a long bike ride. 12.8 kilometres in total. Everyone enjoyed the ride and had fun. There were also horses, ducks, and if you're lucky enough, an Alpaca! We did a slow race as well. It was who could ride the slowest and have the most stability.
Everyone groaned when camp came to an end, and we boarded the bus, but there was also celebration for the end of a fantastic experience.
All in all, camp was spectacular. A wonderful experience. People were getting pushed out of their comfort zone, but it was all in the fun!
