It’s hard to believe we have less than three weeks left of Term 1, and what a busy term it has been. Please have a look at the Year level pages to see what everyone has been up to over the last two weeks across both campuses. Below are a few upcoming events we would like the school community to be aware of.
NAPLAN has commenced today for our Year 3 and Year 5 students. Please see the assessment schedule below. More information regarding NAPLAN can be found on Compass and within this newsletter.
Harmony Day takes place on the 21st of March 2024. The event occurs on this day each year and has done so for over 20 years. The day itself marks an important date, as the 21st of March is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Whilst Harmony Week is a uniquely Australian event, it coincides with global efforts for the promotion of equality and inclusivity, centring on Harmony Day. Harmony Day is the focal point of the Harmony Week celebrations.
At NMPS, we will celebrate Harmony Week in our classrooms with a number of activities and with our Harmony Day picnic on Thursday 21st March. We look forward to seeing families come together for the afternoon. Please refer to Compass and this newsletter for additional information.
The Holy month of Ramadan has begun. Ramadan is a special month which involves fasting from first light (pre-dawn) to last light (post sunset). We have a number of students and staff at NMPS that observe Ramadan, and as such offer a prayer space for our senior students in our Errol Street Library. Anyone wishing to use a celebratory greeting throughout Ramadan can say, “Ramadan Mubarak” which means ‘have a blessed Ramadan’.
Next week we also have our Ride2School Day on Friday 22nd March. Ride2School Day is a national event, and we encourage your family to join in the fun and ride, walk, scoot or skate to school on Friday!
At NMPS, we encourage all families to walk, scoot, ride or catch public transport to school as often as possible every day. Please don’t forget your helmets!
In addition to Ride2School Day on Friday 22nd March, we also have our 3-6 Cross Country scheduled. Please keep an eye open on Compass for further details.
We are pleased to introduce the newest member of our NMPS family. Ari and his partner, Estelle, welcomed baby Rowan into the world on Friday 23 February at 12.30 am. We would like to send our heartfelt congratulations to Ari and Estelle and wish them all the best at this special time.
