Leader of Learning

With Mr Damien Herb

Term 1 has been a busy, yet successful Term at MCC!

Firstly, I’m pleased to report that our Year 7 and 9 students successfully complete their NAPLAN testing this Term in the domains of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Both the College and families should receive student results mid way through the year.

Next week, we will also hold our first 7-10 Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences from 4pm - 7pm on Wednesday via Zoom. We have had a wonderful response from parents with lots of bookings already taking place.

If parents would like to have a conversation with a staff member who is already fully booked or unavailable, please feel free to make email contact with the teacher and they can provide feedback on student progress.

Thank you again for valuing student learning and growth through the participation in our Conferences.

This term our staff have also been engaging in valuable Professional Learning by participating in collaborative Growth Action Plan Meetings on areas such as: Critical Thinking, High Achieving Students, Selected Outcomes Students, Literacy and Numeracy. These sessions involve staff sharing activities, strategies and student work samples which demonstrate approaches to these areas in action, providing evidence of the success of a strategy or providing opportunities for collaboration on a way forward. Staff have also spent their Professional Learning Team time setting their own Professional Learning Goals and visiting other classrooms to see learning in action through our Gr8 Walks.

Finally, a reminder that the first day back next Term for students will be Tuesday the 30th of April. On Monday the 29th of April, staff will participate in a valuable Professional Learning Day, engaging with strategies in Pedagogy, Assessment and Literacy. They will also spend collaborative time with their KLA Teams in undertaking an Assessment Moderation Session. I thank all the staff creating, facilitating and presenting sessions in advance.

Have a happy and safe holiday break and I look forward to seeing everyone back ready for the commencement of Term 2.

Yours in learning,

Damien Herb
