STEM Enrichment Academy for Girls

On Tuesday 14 May 2024, 15 Year 9 students attend the Year 9 Girls STEM Enrichment Day at Flinders University.

This day is an opportunity for students to participate in a two enrichment workshops facilitated by industry partners, and to hear from an expert woman using science in their daily jobs.

In workshop one, students learnt about green chemistry – how chemistry can be used to perform sustainable development. They conducted a chemical experiment to make sustainable bottles using seaweeds.

In workshop two, students explored ‘Everything happens for a reason and that reason is usually Physics!’ – They looked at experiments to represent Physics of Medicine (Biomedical Engineering), Physics of Nature (Nanoscience), Physics of Aurora, Physics of Steam Engine and Weather Systems (Climate Science and Weather Systems).
