ARTIST ON THE RISE AWARD

Artist on the Rise was an award developed to recognise students’ achievements in art classes. Artist on the Rise celebrates students who have demonstrated skill, dedication, growth and improvement over time and an overall positive contribution to the school’s art community and culture. During term 1 in Year 10 Ceramics, Noah Winston made a ceramic planter pot called Pencil Planter and it is this excellent piece that has made him the award recipient of the Artist on the Rise award.

The theme of the Year 10 Ceramic unit was to develop a plant pot based on McKinnon Secondary College. We took pictures around the school to develop our ideas and practised various methods and techniques to develop the skills needed to construct a larger pot. Noah made a slab pot to create the cylinder as the base, then used the coil machine which was unfamiliar to him to create the coloured pencils around the outside of the pot.

Noah enjoyed exploring a new way of constructing clay, he consistently worked hard in every class, and it shows in the final product. Noah has previously enjoyed ceramics and found it rewarding to see his ceramics skills improve. Ms Simpson has been pleased to witness Noah’s dedication and growth as an artist. She encourages Noah to maintain his hard work and creative spirit as he continues to progress in art class and beyond.

As soon as Term One started the Year 7s hit the ground running with our first Learning Task, an Acrylic Landscape Painting. Before we started the final design our wonderful Art teachers taught us some art techniques such as one point and two-point perspective and foreground, middle ground and background.

My painting was of a farm, I used the technique of one-point perspective for the path and added some barns along the path. So far, I have really enjoyed Secondary School Art as I now have so much more knowledge about the world of Art.
