CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As we near the middle of Term 2, everything around school is smooth sailing, with many events and activities going on, keeping students busy and entertained.

With the Global Education Perfect Languages Championships in full swing, it has been great to see students embracing the challenge, participating in as many lessons as they can in order to earn points for the school. McKinnon finished 2nd on the global leaderboard, an amazing achievement, congratulations to all involved.

On Friday 10 May, the Year 12 cohort held their annual Year 12 Trivia Night in the Hall. Planned and run by the senior council and school captains, there was an abundance of excitement in the lead up.

Each group dressed up in their chosen theme, ranging from golfers to Willy Wonka characters, and the winner of best dressed group was The Simpsons characters.

Overall, it was a great night, with fun questions and entertaining bonus rounds. The winning group was ‘Yogi and Friends’, taking out the top prize consisting of vouchers generously provided from Ormond Ice-creamery, Jasper’s Pizza, Carnival Crepes, and Lumos Bakery.

There was also a performance from talented Year 12 students, ending the night in a fitting way, being yet another successful event for the cohort, full of fun and memories.

As we approach the business end of the term, it is a very busy time for all students, with many SACs, tests and exams coming up. I wish everyone involved the best of luck.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

What an exhilarating week it was from Tuesday 7 May to Tuesday 14 May as the McKinnon community joined forces for the annual Education Perfect Languages Championship. The results? Nothing short of remarkable! McKinnon secured second place globally, achieving a staggering total of 447,492 points. LET’S GO MCKINNON!!! A massive round of applause to every student who participated and a huge shoutout to our Languages Society for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the competition.

Friday 10 May was a day to remember as McKinnon hosted the annual Model UN event. It was a day packed with passionate debates and diplomatic negotiations as students stepped into the shoes of country delegates. As a participant, I found myself truly inspired by the opportunity to contribute to global problem solving. If you missed out this year then mark your calendars for next year's event because trust me, it's an experience you won't want to miss!

On Thursday 16 May McKinnon proudly showcased its musical finesse with the annual Stringfest event. A day filled with beautiful melodies and harmonious collaboration as string students from various schools came together to rehearse and perform. It was a sight to behold, witnessing so many talented musicians uniting their skills to create something truly magical. Kudos to all participants for making Stringfest an unforgettable celebration of musical talent!

We've already had a whirlwind of events and we're only halfway through the term. I can't wait to see what else Term 2 has in store for us. Stay tuned McKinnon!
