Last Day of Term 3

Term 1 Wrapping Up!

As Term 1 comes to an end it is also a time where VCE students begin to sit their first SAC’s. A reminder for students if they are unwell or unable to sit a SAC, they are required to supply a medical certificate and liaise with their teacher to organise time to sit the SAC.

Yr 12 students you are essentially 1/3 of the way through your final year of school! Use the holidays to rest, revise and get yourself ready for term 2!

Term 1 has been a challenging term for a variety of reasons, I’d like to thank staff, students and families for their ongoing support throughout the term.

Happy Easter to all! I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break and come back for an exciting term 2!

Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga

Eighteen senior students from our region including Bonnie Elliot, Ellie Spokes, Maggie Riley, Jye Roberts, Isaac Bourke and Sarah Blair from Charlton, recently attended the CSU Explore Day to discover more about Agriculture and Animal Studies courses.

The students from East Loddon, Boort, Birchip, Donald, Wycheproof and Charlton, were fortunate to have current CSU students - Tadhg Lowry (Birchip), Zoe Lister (East Loddon), and Erica Payne (Birchip), available to give them a tour of the accommodation and provide them with an insight into the CSU student experience. CSU provided informative sessions about their courses and had staff available to help with specific questions about entry requirements and pathway options for students.

Many of the students attending the event, felt that the campus, had a very friendly rural atmosphere, and they could visualise themselves becoming students there.

This experience was supported by NCLLEN and SSAF 21st Century Agricultural Careers. Particular thanks to Charlton staff member Zoe Carney, who assisted with student supervision and was so cheerfully tolerant of the long distance and fast food meal alternatives.

Year 11 & 12 Students at Work.

Our Year 11 and 12 VM students participate in a Structured Workplace Learning Program (SWL) one day a week and are supported by Darcy McCallum, Abby Mulquiny and NCLLEN SWL Coordinator, Mary-Ann Sait.

It has been very exciting to witness pathway conversations turn into completed paperwork, followed by students serving their passions and our community in a safe and supportive workplace. It’s not always an easy task but all students have enjoyed a work placement during a busy Term 1, congratulations to all involved.

Term 1 work placments wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous businesses. We would like to acknowledge the support of the following businesses who are currently hosting one of our students; The Vale of Avoca, The Charlton Bakery, St Joseph’s Primary School Charlton, Charlton Op Shop, Charlton Neighbourhood House, Wedderburn Produce & Garden, Paper, Scissors, Rock Hair Lounge Swan Hill, and Madame Glam Hair Studio Wedderburn.

Additionally, we are pleased to have 2 Year 12 students completing HeadStart School Based Apprenticeships (SBA). We would like to congratulate Nick Thompson on his continued Building SBA with Jack Thomspon Construction and Hugh Sait who has commenced a SBA this year with O’Connors Birchip as a Diesel Mechanic. Both boys are completing 2days a week in their workplaces.

We also have Poppy Fitzpatrick completing Year 11 VCE whilst undertaking a School Based Traineeship with Shine Bright Kindergarten and Childcare. Our little people are in great hands.

Our College wish our students all the best in their workplacements, apprenticeships and traineeships.

If you are a business and interested in hosting a Year 11 or 12 student this year in a work placement, we encourage you to make contact with Mary-Ann Sait at NCLLEN 0400 696 156 or Abby Mulquiny at Charlton College for more information.

We look forward to sharing more photos during Term 2 of our very talented students at work and in their VET studies

CAREER CLUSTERS

Which Cluster are you?

Research shows that there are common traits, tasks, and ways of working that go beyond industries or jobs. By shifting the focus from which job or industry, to “Which Cluster?”, it becomes much easier for students to identify where they fit and to start talking about the possibilities.

Let’s take a quick look at the six (6) Career Clusters:

Guardians protect our mental and physical wellbeing. They help us care for our health, and guard against illness and injury.

Coordinators are the people who plan, prepare, and administer our events, systems and economy. They play a vital role in making sure everything runs smoothly.

Innovators design, engineer, and manufacture things we use in all areas of our lives, from the clothes we wear, to the food we eat, the homes we live in and the roads we drive on.

Linkers help us find, choose, secure, and use things. They can help us with products and physical items, or with the services and support we need.

Informers advise, teach, and guide us so we can manage our legal, social, and financial responsibilities, and participate in society.

Makers create and maintain the places where we live and work. They grow crops, build homes, repair vehicles, and keep the power on.
