Year 1

Hello from 1B

We have had a wonderful Term 1, making lots of new friends and completing many activities about building relationships and celebrating our individual differences.

As part of our weekly morning routine, we have been using Jolly Classroom to practise our letter recognition of individual phonemes, blends, and digraphs, and introduce our weekly sound focus. Each day students participate in a variety of different activities on our new interactive screens to help support their learning in a fun way.

During our reading lessons we have focused on identifying the main idea within a text and recalling the sequence of events in the beginning, middle and end of a story shared. Students listened to ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ series written by Nick Bland. They made puppets of the different characters and in small groups rehearsed and then performed their puppet shows to one another.

In numeracy we have been ordering numbers from the smallest to the largest, partitioning numbers using Place Value and practised the days of the week, months of the year and seasons.

The students had a wonderful time at the Mini Olympics, which they participated in with students from EMC. They completed a variety of activities including obstacle courses, noughts and crosses, egg and spoon races and sack races. It was a lot of fun, and we thank the students from EMC for running such a fun experience.
