Goal Setting Initiative
At Patterson River Secondary College we want all students to have aspirations not only for when they leave us at the end of Year 12 but also for their time at secondary school. We want students to be motivated to achieve their goals and have a clear direction of how they can get there.
Goal setting is an emerging school wide initiative at the College. We trialled this initiative with a number of classes last year and this year every student across the school will have conversations about what they want to achieve in their learning as well as setting their personal goals.
So far within T@SK (Time at Skills and Knowledge) lessons, Years 10-12 students have explored the "why" of goal setting and have set their own College Values' aligned goals. They will also set personal goals around health, wellbeing and their future pathways.
Year 9 students are on their way, completing their vision boards and looking at their last year's attendance.
Year 8 students will begin the process in Term 2. Year 7 will begin in Term 3 after they have received their first secondary school reports.
Senior school parents, we invite you to have a chat with your child and ask what goals they have set this year. I know that many students in my class have surprised me with what they want to work on. It has been fantastic to see through the lessons leading up to setting goals that students have been able to identify and articulate their improvement areas and determine strategies they can look to implement for the future.
