  IB Learner Profile Focus: Reflective

Throughout the month of May, our school-wide focus is on being Reflective — one of the key attributes of the IB Learner Profile

Being reflective means, we take time to thoughtfully consider the world around us, as well as our own ideas, actions, and experiences. Reflective learners understand their strengths and areas for growth and use that understanding to guide their personal and academic development.

What does being Reflective look like at Beaumaris North Primary?

We are reflective when we:

  • Look back and think carefully about things we’ve done before

  • Use feedback and listen to others’ ideas to shape our own thinking

  • Draw on what we already know to approach new tasks

  • Think about our learning and set meaningful goals

How can you support your child in being reflective at home?

Here are some simple ways to encourage reflection in everyday routines:

  •  Encourage your child to keep a journal or diary where they can reflect on their day or learning.

  •  After completing a task or activity, talk about what went well, what was tricky, and what they might try next time.

Ask open-ended reflective questions such as:

What did you learn?

What surprised you?

What would you do differently?

Why do you think that worked (or didn’t work)?

By making reflection a natural part of conversations at home, you help your child build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong learning mindset.

Student Voice: What does being reflective mean to us?

Our Year 6 PYP Leaders Jack and Aiden interviewed some of our Beaumaris North students to find out what it means to be a reflective learner — in the classroom and beyond.
