From the Boarding Captain

It’s hard to believe this term is already over, and it is holidays now!!!

I hope every boarder has had a fabulous term full of fun, laughter, and hard work and is looking forward to being back at home doing what they enjoy the most. And for the parents, I hope you are excited to have your child home for the next few weeks!

Term One has been extremely busy. The new boarders have settled straight into the routines of boarding, getting involved in recreational activities each and every weekend and making new friendships along the way. Boarding is a tight community of many different age groups, and it is delightful to see new boarders fitting in straight away.

As it is getting colder in Albany again, our weekly Sunday session has been pushed inside. However, there is still plenty of chatter about everyone’s weekends and sometimes even some footy to watch.

Over the past few weeks, one of our most consistent recs has been watching the women’s footy. It is great to see all the support going to the games to cheer on our fellow boarders. I want to say a huge congratulations to the Youth Railways and North Albany teams for making it into the grand final, and good luck to those boarders playing!

Last Sunday, we had our annual MasterChef challenge. It was the first event of the year, and it went off with a bang! There were five teams of all different ages, and they all received a mystery box filled with different ingredients that they had to use to cook a meal. It was very challenging initially to work out what to cook, but all the groups eventually worked it out and started to cook up a storm. We had meals of kangaroo steak wraps, fish curry, pesto pasta with chicken, pork stir-fry, and steak and vegetables. Overall, the judges claimed it was a very close competition, with Team Four (steak and vegetables) coming second and Team Five (pork stir-fry) coming out on top!!! We all enjoyed our cooked meals with them, tasting even better knowing our hard work had paid off. I want to say a massive thank you to Mrs Franzinelli, Mr Keatch, and, of course, our lovely chefs, Chef Nick and James, who helped out tremendously with this event.

National Boarding Week is coming up in Week Three next term, and I would like each boarder to get photos and videos of what they got up to in the holidays to showcase around school. Boarding week is an annual event, and it is a chance for us boarders to show the day students what our life is like not living at home. So please get as much footage as possible, whether it is seeding, hanging out at the beach, spending time with friends and family, or even your pets; it would be great to show what home is like for you.

I would like to wish Mr and Mrs Keatch all the best for their future endeavours and thank them for the major contribution they have made to boarding and school. They will be dearly missed, but I hope they have a relaxing break. They have done so much for all of us in the short time they have been here, and we are all so grateful.

I would also like to congratulate and welcome Mr Sarre, who is taking over the roles of Head of Eclipse House and Director of Senior Boarding.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Easter. I wish those who are beginning seeding all the best.
