Bendigo Share and Repair Shed & Bendigo RSL Military Museum Excursion

What a fabulous day out and about!!
On Wednesday, April 23rd, students and staff headed off to Bendigo to explore the Bendigo Share and Repair Shed and the Bendigo RSL Military Museum.
At the Bendigo Share and Repair Shed, we were greeted by Elsie, Kate and Noel, who told us about why the Shed had been established, what sorts of things they can help people to repair and all about their 'Re-makery' and 'Tool Library'. Yes, your read that correctly, a tool library.... a place where you can borrow, use, and then return a specific tool/s, rather than needing to buy one!! How cool is that?!
Then, we got 'crafty' with Kate, who helped us re-use egg cartons and donated wool to make our very own "Loddon River" inspired fish to tie in with our River Detectives Program. Finally, we visited the 'Useful Bin' where we were able to take 5 items home with us that we're going to re-use or re-purpose!
For families interested in taking a visit to the Bendigo Share and Repair Shed to see the amazing work they're doing to create a more sustainable planet, they are open every Thursday and Saturday, from 10am to 1pm. Located at 120 Garsed Street, the volunteers would love to help you repair broken items, learn some simple sewing skills or just have a chat!
After a bite of food and a quick bus ride into town, we met with Kym and Paul, two volunteers with the Bendigo RSL Military Museum who spent the hour with us, showing us around. We had the opportunity to look around the different exhibits and displays and learn more about Australia's and Bendigo's war history throughout conflicts from the Boer War to Afghanistan. Some of our students even had the chance to try on a hat/helmet or two from the various defence forces!
Lastly, as a bit of a special treat, we got to climb to the top of the internal stairs and eat lunch in the rotunda whilst enjoying spectacular views of Pall Mall and surrounds!
For those wishing to visit the Bendigo RSL Military Museum, they are open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am - 3pm. Adult tickets are $12, and children under 12 are FREE!!
Thanks,
Miss Coffey
