SPORT- Mrs Burt

It was a very busy end to the term and it was great to see so many students enjoying and embracing the THRIVE values.
Year 6 Lightning Premiership - Monday 31st March
In Year 6, students have the opportunity to play sport against other schools. This term students participated in one of the following sports – rounders, softball, newcombe, and cricket. Friday mornings and some lunchtimes were spent practising the skills of the game, developing game strategies and learning the rules of the game. On Monday, the students then participated in the Lightning Premiership against the schools in the District – Baxter, Langwarrin, Pearcedale, Somerville, Somerville Rise and Woodlands. All students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and overall, were excellent ambassadors for the school.
Coached by Mrs Reynolds and supported by Shae, both the Mixed and Girls Rounders teams played off in the Grand Finals against Woodlands. They all played extremely well, but unfortunately, both teams finished 2nd overall to Woodlands.
Coached by Mr Freake, and with the help of a couple of Year 5 students, the Kanga A team finished 4th overall.
Coached by Mrs Burt, the Boys and Girls Softball teams did a great job learning the skills and game strategies of a sport they just started to learn in Year 6 sport. The boys team won 1 game and drew 1 to finish 3rd overall. The girls team had 3 wins and 1 loss, to Pearcedale who were the overall winners.
Coached by Ms S, Ms Wainwright and Ms Blake, 3 newcombe teams played in the competition.1 team in Pool A and 2 teams in Pool B. All 3 teams had an amazing tournament. In Pool B, Team C finished 3rd and Team B won Pool B competition. Team A won the Pool A competition.
House Athletics: Years 3 - 6
On Wednesday 2nd April, 270 students from Years 3 to 6 participated in the House Athletics.
All students got into the spirit of the day dressing in their House colours, supporting and encouraging each other and trying their personal best in each of the events – long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, 100m, 400m and hurdles.
Thanks to Mrs Peluso who organized a wonderful day and all the teachers, EMC students and parent helpers who attended the day to make sure the events ran smoothly.
Congratulations also to the EMC helpers who came 1st and 2nd in the staff, parent and House Captains relay. The McLelland House Captains finished 3rd and Lindsay finished 4th. The teachers did a great job, but were outclassed on the day.

Regional Swimming
On Wednesday 2nd April the same time as the House Athletics, 11 of our students competed at YAWA in the Southern Metropolitan Region Swimming competition. Competing against students from over 400 schools, our students were great ambassadors for our school. They were respectful, enthusiastic, positive and eager to do their best; and the best they did! Our students performed admirably. Congratulations and well done to:
- 12/13 Years Girls relay team (6th) - Georgia Z, Skye R, Abby W, Sailor G,
- 11 Years Boys relay team (6th) – Emerson M, Mason Q, Ethan M, Byron K
- Amelia H – 8th, 10 Years Backstroke
- Xavier K – 5th, 10 Years Backstroke
- Grayden K – 6th, 10 Years Backstroke
Thank you to all the parents; you have been a wonderful support to me and the children.
Special thank you to Kerry (Kingswim) who assisted with training. Without her qualifications, I would not be able to run the training.
House Cross Country - Tuesday 29th April
As mentioned in the last assembly, the House Cross Country is being held next Tuesday (weather permitting) for students in Years 3 - 6. However, there maybe some Year 2 students who are turning 9 this year, who are interested in trying out for the school Cross Country team. If so, they can run with the Year 3 students and if they finish in the Top 10, they may be eligible to compete at the District level.
Students who finish in the Top 10, will be considered for the school team, however, I am already aware that some students will be absent on the day, so I will need to run a couple of time trials before I can confirm who will be representing the school at the District Cross Country, which will be held on Tuesday 20th May at Hastings Foreshore.
Just a few reminders:
- All parents should have received the event on Compass. It is expected that all students participate. If for some reason your child is unable to participate, please provide a written note.
- Students who wish to be considered for the school team MUST run in their age group race.
- Like the House Athletics, students are encouraged to dress in their House colours.
- Spare socks, shoes and clothing should be brought in case of wet weather.
- Once again, parent help is greatly appreciated. Please see the added questions on Compass.
CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING – TUESDAY AND THURSDAY MORNINGS
Cross Country training will be available for all students in Years 3 – 6. If you haven't replied via Compass, please collect a consent form from Mrs Burt at the Gym office. Students are to meet at the gym at 8:00 am with appropriate runners and attire.
