In the Classroom
and out and about!
On Tuesday 1st April, Elisabeth Murdoch College, Langwarrin Primary School, Woodlands Primary School, Langwarrin Park Primary School, and Pearcedale Primary held an amazing school community event, with 550 participants walking 25 -50km in one day from St Kilda to Frankston. The walk was along the beach the entire way, and we finished with the last few steps across the finish line, celebrated by family, friends, and the school community. Our Year 5 and 6 students should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Our total fundraising amount is now over $280,000!
A big thankyou to the following groups for supporting the cause:
We couldn't have done it without your support.

We are thrilled to report the overwhelming success of the 2025 ICAN Challenge, an inspiring biennial event uniting students from the Langwarrin Thrive schools—Langwarrin Park Primary, Woodlands Primary, Langwarrin Primary, and Elisabeth Murdoch College—with the exciting addition of Pearcedale Primary this year. Together, our communities rallied behind a shared goal: to raise vital funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
This year, an incredible 445 students participated in the challenge, walking distances ranging from 25 to 50 kilometres—from Ricketts Point or Port Melbourne (depending on their age group) all the way to Frankston Pier. Their determination, resilience, and community spirit were truly awe-inspiring, and their efforts were rewarded with a record-breaking fundraising total of $287,394—surpassing all previous years.
Langwarrin Park Primary School had the honour and immense responsibility of managing the lunch station in Mordialloc—a far more complex task than the standard refreshment stops. This involved not only serving hundreds of students and staff a nutritious meal but also coordinating volunteers, managing food safety protocols, and ensuring smooth timing and delivery for multiple school groups arriving across a staggered schedule.
Thanks to the generosity of our local sponsors and the incredible support of our school community, we rose to the challenge. Camp Australia provided bottle refilling stations with filtered, ice-cold water, while Bakers Delight Langwarrin supplied over 600 fresh rolls and scrolls. Our LPPS parents once again went above and beyond, donating a generous variety of snacks to keep our walkers energised.
We are especially proud to share that, following the event, representatives from all participating schools unanimously voted LPPS’s lunch station as the best on the entire route. This feedback is a huge testament to the planning, teamwork, and dedication of our staff and volunteers. We have undoubtedly set a new standard for future ICAN Challenges, and we could not be prouder.
The ICAN Challenge continues to be a powerful demonstration of what our students can achieve when they are supported by a passionate, generous, and united community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who played a role in making this year’s event such a triumph—for our students, for our school, and most importantly, for the children who rely on the Royal Children’s Hospital.
What a fantastic display of color, creativity, rabbits, and eggs we had at the Easter Bonnet Parade! The children truly outdid themselves, each one proudly showing off their handmade bonnets adorned with bright colors, fluffy bunnies, and festive Easter eggs. It was a joyful sight as they hopped, and marched around, with pride at their unique creations. The effort and imagination that went into each bonnet were truly impressive, making this year’s parade a cheerful celebration of community spirit and holiday fun.
Our Grade 5/6 students were recently treated to a special visit from acclaimed author Louise Park, who shared the powerful story behind her book Last Man Out. This moving novel is based on the experiences of her grandfather during the war, offering students a deeply personal and emotional insight into the sacrifices made by the ANZACs.
Louise’s storytelling not only captivated the students but also served as an important educational experience. Through her words, students gained a greater understanding of the bravery, resilience, and hardships faced by those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Her visit sparked thoughtful discussions in the classroom about the importance of remembering our history and honouring those who served. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from Louise and are proud of the respectful curiosity shown by our students throughout her talk.
This year we will be running a school wide talent show. This is a Year 6 project, in line with our focus on student voice, agency and leadership. The show will be run in three parts during Term 2 with a finale in early Term 3. Selected students will then go on to participate in a multi school talent show to be held towards the end of the year.
Due to the wide age range, performances will be grouped as follows: Foundation – Year 2 Years 3 and 4 Years 5 and 6.
You will be notified of the actual dates shortly. This information is being provided so that you and your child/children can talk during the holidays about the way in which they could participate. The kind of performances they may wish to consider include singing, dancing, gymnastics, magic, mime, comedy, storytelling, poetry, instrumental. They may like to perform by themselves or with a partner/small group.

ANZAC Day Assembly
On Thursday, 24th April 2025, we held our annual ANZAC Day Assembly. During the ceremony, our school leaders laid a wreath in remembrance of those who have served — past, present, and future — for our beautiful country.
The wreath, generously donated by Flowers for Jane, was placed beneath our flags as a symbol of respect and gratitude.
This meaningful event not only honoured the service and sacrifice of our ANZACs but also helped educate students about the importance of this significant day in Australian history.
