The Berry Street Education Model
St Anne's uses the Berry Street Education Model as a basis for all of our routines, student support and general way of doing things. It enables us to have consistent routines, language and expections, enabling us to better support the students and their needs. We will be very lucky to have nearly all of our staff trained in this model by the end of this year.
The model has 5 domains:
Body, Relationships, Stamina, Character Strengths and Engagment.
This week our staff have revisited 2 of the domains. Body and Relationship.
We explored the importanct of having consistent, predictable routines and consistent, predictable adults.
The Body domain is about supporting all in our community to be regulated and present. For the students it is about knowing when they are ready to learn and when they may need some help to get themselves ready.
The Relationship domain is about building postivie and trusting relationships. It is about connecting with students, having postives narratives and working together.
The Berry Street Education Model is an integral part of St Anne's and the way we interact and support each other.
