Central Idea

Present day cultures are influenced by cultures from the past

As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

The Year six students are commencing their second unit of inquiry. They will be investigating historical events that have contributed to the development of Australia since Federation and significant moments that have changed the face of Australia.

Students will examine how migration has shaped Australian demographics and cultural landscape. Delve deeper into the concept of migration, understanding the reasons people move to a new country and the contributions they bring. Recognise the achievements of individuals and groups that have enriched our Australian culture.

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms. Year 6 students have the opportunity to demonstrate action by pursuing a position as a curriculum, school or house captain at school.

Approaches to Learning

Research Skills – Students will refine their research skills to investigate historical events
Self-management – Organising information, finding and evaluating information.
