Y12 Visual Communication Design

The Unit 3/4 Visual Communication Design class is currently working on their final major design assessment. Students have chosen a human-centred problem, using visual communication design to come up with a viable solution for their chosen problem. Students have been working very hard on their design projects throughout the past few months to make sure that they come up with the best design solutions that they can be showcase and ultimately something that they can be proud of.

Here are some testimonials from some of the Unit 3/4 Visual Communication Design students:

Roos Feekman (Year 11)

This year in Viscom, we’ve been exploring how design is centred around humans. From sketching initial concepts to refining them with digital tools, I’ve learned how to communicate ideas visually in so many ways. One of my favourite projects I've done was the Charley Harper design, where we were required to select an object, food item or animal and use the design elements and principles to design an illustration in the style of Charley Harper's work. I chose a whale shark for my design, and I loved how I was able to express the animal in a creative way. It's been a really fun and eye-opening experience over the last two years, and I would recommend this subject to everyone.

Lily Manning (Year 11)

Viscom is one of my most challenging VCE subjects, but it's also my favourite. The two best parts of the subject are having control over what you make and being able to express yourself through your own interests and ideas. The other best part is the day after SAC submissions. One of my favourite projects we have worked on is the current SAT, where we had to find a human-centred issue/design problem and come up with a solution. I chose sustainability and the health of communities. I am working on an eco-friendly café called Eco Blends, which promotes sustainability, health and the current cost of living. For my final presentation, I will have a physical model representation of the café, a logo, an advertisement poster and two menus with in-season foods following sustainability. My advice for anyone choosing to do Viscom is to be as organised as you can and forget procrastination.

Brody T (Year 12)

Visual Communication is a class with lots of pros and cons. One of the Pros I found was the ability I had to be creative and having the freedom to make anything I wanted. Some cons I found was the workload can get a bit overwhelming near the end of the 3/4 and the deadlines kept creeping up on me. But in the end, Visual Communication is a very enjoyable and rewarding subject.
