Principal's Report
"Creativity takes courage." – Henri Matisse
We have had a terrific week celebrating The Arts here at the college, featuring everything from collaborative artwork and lunchtime theatre games to an art contest, an Ensemble Soiree, and, not to mention, our first-ever Battle of The Bands. The talent amongst students at all year levels runs deep. The development of the whole person at Beaumaris highlights how the creative process enriches not just the individual but an entire community.
Creativity does take courage, as Henri Matisse stated, and this courage is not only at the heart of The Arts but is also fundamental to all academic pursuits. It is the energy and the production of something that is visible to an audience that draws on an artist’s courage. At Beaumaris Secondary College, we value the creative spirit in every aspect of their learning, whether it's through painting, performance, scientific exploration or problem-solving. It is this blend of artistic expression and academic excellence that fosters well-rounded, innovative thinkers prepared to take on the challenges of the future.
Thank you to the dedicated CREATE team, whose knowledge and passion for nurturing our students' creativity and talents has been visible throughout Arts Week. Your efforts ensure that our students leave Beaumaris Secondary College with the courage to express themselves and the confidence to make their mark on the world. Thank you for all that you do to enrich the lives of our students and to make The Arts a vibrant and integral part of our school community.
BSC Book Launch
Our students and staff are encouraging students to make their creative thinking visible through their writing. Our first collection of student writing, Shoreline, shines a light on our fabulous writers. Every piece demonstrates the creativity, courage and dedication of our young writers, and I hope you can join us for the official launch event tomorrow, Friday 6 September at 3:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate our students' accomplishments.
I would like to thank Mr de Valle, Ms Green and Mr Cian whose support and encouragement have played a vital role in bringing this together. Your dedication is what makes achievements like Shoreline possible. Thank you for fostering a culture of creativity and excellence within our school.
College Production
This time next week, it will be the opening night of our 2024 College Production, Alice in Wonderland. The cast and crew have demonstrated commitment and perseverance, managing the demands of school, home and numerous weekend rehearsals. We look forward to seeing our students and families there enjoying the performances.
2024 Curriculum Contributions
Thank you to our families for their generous Curriculum Contributions in 2024. Your support plays a crucial role in enriching the educational experience for all students at Beaumaris Secondary College. These contributions enable us to provide a broad range of resources, programs and opportunities that enhance learning and help our students thrive. We are deeply grateful for your ongoing commitment to our school community.
You can read more about the ways the 2024 Curriculum Innovation Contributions have been used and the impact they've made, in this newsletter. We look forward to continuing this partnership in fostering the best possible educational environment for our students.
Staffing Update
We are delighted to welcome Conal McGrenra to the team. Conal will be teaching Money and Markets as well as Children of the Revolution.
Wear it Purple Day
Last Friday, our staff proudly wore purple in celebration of Wear It Purple Day, a day dedicated to fostering supportive, safe and inclusive environments for young people. This initiative aligns with our commitment at Beaumaris Secondary College to embrace diversity and ensure that every student feels valued and respected.
Community Connections
Once again, it's been wonderful to share our facilities with the wider community, this time for a Science in Primary Schools Program, which was held in the MCC Pavilion last week.
Our Year 9 Beyond students also wrapped up their successful Community Connections Program, volunteering throughout August at local primary schools and early childcare centres.
We are immensely grateful for our partnership with the MCC, which recently afforded our Business Management Unit 3/4 students the incredible opportunity to tour the MCG and participate in a Q&A session with MCC CEO Stuart Fox. Thank you to the MCC for supporting our students' learning journey.
Free Headspace Webinar
I encourage all parents and carers to attend the free Headspace webinar on Tuesday night, 10 September, from 6 - 7pm, to gain valuable insights into supporting your child's mental health and wellbeing.
As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement.
