Week 5 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year, St. Fidelis' School is participating in the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, 12 to 16 August 2024.

Bullying No Way Week is a commitment made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention and connect with students, staff, and school communities to implement workable solutions.

The campaign's new hero colour is purple, symbolising peace, strength, and empowerment to take a stand against bullying behaviour.

The theme for this year's campaign is Everyone Belongs. This theme highlights the importance of creating a sense of belonging and inclusion for students. We recognise bullying often thrives in environments where individuals feel marginalised or excluded, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that every student feels valued and respected.

“Positive school climates that value diversity and inclusion can foster a sense of belonging and provide a protective factor against negative peer relationships and reduce bullying.” (Australian Education Research Organisation, 2023).

For more information about Bullying No Way Week and bullying prevention, visit the Bullying No Way website.

During the week, we will be engaging students in meaningful discussions and activities aimed at promoting empathy, understanding, and respect for diversity. We encourage parents and carers to take this opportunity to have open and honest conversations with their children about the impact of bullying and what they can do if they need support. You can visit the Bullying No Way website for tips on how to have this discussion.

You can access the school’s bullying prevention policy, St. Fidelis Policy, to learn more about our process for preventing and responding to bullying.

If you have concerns that your child is being bullied, please contact the classroom teacher or a member of the leadership team in the first instance. If you believe the behaviour constitutes a crime or is a serious incident of cyberbullying, please refer to the Bullying No Way website for information on how to report to other authorities and access wellbeing help.

Thank you

Last Friday, Fr. Linh celebrated his final Mass with the children, and each year level presented him with a special gift. Afterwards, the staff and community gathered for morning tea and presented him with a community gift. Fr. Linh was deeply thankful and expressed his gratitude for his time with us, saying he will never forget the warmth of our community. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to his gift!

St Fidelis' Trivia Night

Thank you to the Parents and Friends' Committee for organizing a successful Trivia Night last Friday night. It was wonderful to see so many parents and teachers come together, contributing to the vibrant community spirit that defines our school. Congratulations to everyone who attended to help raise funds for the new junior playground. Special thanks to Ian Moore, a former parent, for continuing to support our school and parish by running the event.

Pupil Free  Day - Tuesday, August 27th

This is a reminder that the school will be closed on Tuesday, August 27th, as our staff will be participating in a Spiritual Development Day focused on Mary MacKillop at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre in East Melbourne.

This day allows us to deepen our own faith journey so we can better support the children's learning of the Catholic faith. There will be no school for students, but full-day care through TheirCare will be available. Please make sure to book in if needed.
