VCE/VET Sport and Recreation Units 1&2
On Tuesday, August 20th, our Year 10 VET Sport and Recreation students put their theoretical knowledge into action by assisting with the Warrandyte Primary School Athletics Carnival. They showcased outstanding leadership and teamwork by contributing to event planning, setup and cleanup, marshalling and judging track events, and officiating field events. The primary school staff were highly impressed with our students' professionalism, hard work, and dedication. Congratulations to all involved—your exemplary performance and leadership were truly commendable
Six students also took on the opportunity to coach, score and manage the Warrandyte Primary School grade 3&4 Hoop time basketball teams. All students did an amazing job leading their teams, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and representing Warrandyte High School. 2 of the teams won their divisions and the primary school students requested that the Warrandyte High School students coach them again at the next level of competition. This is a real testament to the students and the amazing job they did and the relationship they formed with the primary school students.
In the last week of term all students will have further opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge in providing quality service, respond to interpersonal conflict, organise personal work priorities and continually improve officiating skills and knowledge when they will take on the experience of officiating the Year 7 interschool basketball.
VCE/VET Sport & Recreation Units 3&4
Congratulations to our dedicated Unit 3&4 VET Sport & Recreation students who recently spent three days putting their theoretical knowledge to the test. Originally scheduled to attend a sailing camp, the students encountered unexpected extreme weather that prevented sailing activities. However, their resilience and adaptability turned this challenge into an opportunity for diverse learning experiences.
Despite the weather setback, the students engaged in a variety of activities that enriched their practical skills and enabled them to apply and test their theoretical knowledge. They participated in a theoretical session covering basic sailing skills and were introduced to the different types of sailing boats. They also explored Australia's iconic Bells Beach, delved into the retail aspects of surfing, honed their skills in mini-golf, and pushed their limits with indoor rock-climbing and bouldering.
Additionally, they expanded their sailing knowledge through activities on speed boats, focusing on reading weather and water conditions, identifying hazards and risks whilst furthering their knowledge of sailing as a recreational activity and competitive sport.
The camp was not just about academics and skills but also about camaraderie. The students enjoyed their time together at the caravan park, had an exciting night out at LaserQuest, and celebrated the completion of their rigorous two-year course with a final group dinner.
A big thank you to all the students for their flexibility, teamwork, and enthusiasm, which made the camp a memorable and rewarding conclusion to their studies. Your ability to adapt and make the most of every situation was truly commendable.
