Wellbeing Programs: Fostering Inclusion and Wellbeing in Term 3

This past term at Warrandyte High School, we were proud to roll out a series of wellbeing programs aimed at creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for all our students. These initiatives were designed to support students across all year levels, ensuring everyone felt valued and connected. Here’s a look back at what took place!

I CAN Wellbeing Workshops

The I CAN Wellbeing Workshops spanned eight weeks and focused on empowering our neuro-diverse students. These workshops provided essential support, helping students build confidence, self-acceptance, and a sense of pride. By the end of the program, students had developed a stronger sense of belonging and optimism, which contributed significantly to their social integration and overall inclusion in the school community.

Peer Support Program

Throughout the semester, our Peer Support Program brought Year 7 and Year 10 students together in a unique mentoring experience. Year 10 students took on leadership roles, guiding their younger peers through team-building activities and discussions on respectful relationships. This program successfully fostered a supportive network among the students, breaking down social barriers and ensuring that everyone felt accepted and valued.

Minus18 (LGBTQ+) External Facilitator

On Wednesday, August 7th, we hosted an external facilitator from Minus18, who led a session focused on inclusion and support for our LGBTQ+ students. This session was instrumental in raising awareness and fostering empathy within our student body. As a result, we saw a more accepting and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, reducing stigma and encouraging greater inclusivity across the school.

Lead the Way - Confident Paws Program

On August 9th and 16th, students in Years 7 to 10 had the delightful opportunity to participate in the Confident Paws Program, where therapy dogs played a central role in promoting emotional well-being. The interactions with the dogs helped students develop important social skills and emotional regulation. This program was a heartwarming success, contributing to a more inclusive environment by supporting students who might struggle with traditional social interactions.

Lead the Way - Peaceful Paws Program

Our senior students in Years 11 and 12 also benefitted from the Peaceful Paws Program on August 9th and 16th. This program provided a calming and supportive atmosphere, helping these students navigate the unique pressures of their final school years. The sessions were instrumental in fostering emotional well-being and contributed to a more understanding and inclusive environment for our older students.

Toolbox Program

The Toolbox Program took place on July 23rd for Years 9 and 10, and on August 6th for Years 11 and 12. This program was designed to provide practical skills for managing stress and building resilience. By supporting the emotional well-being of our students, the program encouraged a culture of mutual support and understanding, helping everyone feel included and equipped to face challenges.

Forest Walk Program

On August 14th, students participated in the Forest Walk Program, an internal initiative focused on relaxation and mental well-being through nature walks. This program offered a much-needed break from the usual routine, allowing students to unwind, connect with nature, and strengthen their bonds with each other. The peaceful and reflective environment fostered by the program was a valuable contribution to the overall well-being of our students.

We are thrilled with the positive impact these programs had on our school community throughout Term 3. By fostering inclusion, support, and emotional well-being, we have taken significant steps toward building an even more inclusive and supportive environment at Warrandyte High School.
