Reading is Magic! Book Week 2024

The annual CBCA Book Week was celebrated at Warrandyte High School Library with a week of fun and activities.

The purpose of the Children's Book Council of Australia [CBCA] is to enrich young lives through Australian stories. Each year, they recognise pre-eminent Australian children's literature. Winners this year include Grace Notes by Karen Comer for Older Readers

and Scar Town by Tristan Bancks for Younger Readers.

Grab your copy from the Library to experience fantastic Australian stories!

Many activites and competitions were held in the library to mark the best week of the year! Congratulations to Mark Fadel & team, who won the Litreature Kahoot; to Morgan Miller, who guessed staff's favourite book; & Nimo Shirvanzadeh who guessed the correct book characters of a tricky list of shady characters!

Activities included exploring various invisible inks

creating reading heros

and decorating Dorothy's ruby slipper with all the glitter that could fit on a table.

We had a revolting rhyme from Sunjorella,

who invited us to the Disco at the Palace,

and a bilingual storytime  from our visiting international students, who then helped us write in both Mandarin and Sinahala!

A big THANK YOU to all the staff across multiple faculties who made the fun happen,  and to all the staff and students who joined in to make this year's Book Week a fabulous celebration of literature, reading and making merry!
