What's Happening At Milgate!
Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.
We had a fantastic morning celebrating Father’s Day with a special breakfast at Milgate Primary School, where so many dads joined us for a sausage in bread and spent quality time with their children.
After breakfast, the fathers were invited into the classrooms to participate in a variety of engaging activities. In Foundation and Year 1, dads joined in on Discovery sessions, exploring the children’s inquiry-based learning environment. Year 2 students and their dads enjoyed creating ties and playing the Multiplication Paddocks game, while Year 3 took on a crafty challenge by making their own Tic Tac Toe games. Year 4 had an exciting Father’s Day Scavenger Hunt, and Year 5 students invited their dads to a game of Battleships, building on from their recent Maths tasks. Finally, Year 6 students challenged their dads with Maths games like BIDMAS, Greedy Pig, and Paul Swan’s probability games. The students were thrilled to share these experiences with their fathers, making it a fun morning for everyone involved.
A thank you to Todd Lucas and Barry Plant Manningham for donating the sausages and to Bakers Delight for donating the bread. We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents who volunteered to cook and serve the breakfast, in particular to Cameron Perks for organising the donations and coordinating the event. We would also like to thank Sammi Huynh for coordinating the Father's Day sock fundraiser, and we’re sure the dads will love the socks when they receive them on Sunday!
F- Y2: Andrea Rowe
Foundation to Year 2 (plus Bentley and Magnolia) were so lucky to have Andrea Rowe visit us on Tuesday. Andrea spoke about her 3 books and in particular Jetty Jumping which received in 2022 the CBCA Picture Book of the Year award and a medal. Andrea discussed the inspiration behind all her books, many memories stemming back from her childhood and life experiences. Students listened to Andrea read Sunday Skating with the help of students acting out the characters. Thank you to Andrea for visiting us at Milgate and inspiring us to continue to create our own stories and enjoy the love of reading and writing.
Y3 - Y6: Coral Vass
Coral’s passion for storytelling shone through as she guided our Year 3 to Year 6 students through imaginative exercises where our students acted out the narratives from her award winning stories. Coral’s engaging approach not only sparked their creativity but also provided a memorable opportunity for our students to interact with an author. The workshop was a huge success, with students immersed in the world of storytelling and eager to continue on with their own writing units back in the classroom.
A big thank you to Cristina and Sofi for volunteering time to read with students in their first language - Spanish. The students loved listening to stories about a shape birthday party, Franklin the Turtle and The Little Mole. The stories were thoroughly enjoyed, and we all learnt a little bit of Spanish!
Learner Token Celebration Day - Friday September 6
On Friday September 6, the students will be celebrating being incredible learners after filling up the Learner Token container. It will be a free dress day for students. They do not need to bring a gold coin donation. Students will be participating in a variety of activities in their Milgate Mix-up group, which have been organised by our wonderful Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders.
Resilience, Rights, Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
The Victorian Government's "Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships" (RRRR) initiative is a program aimed at fostering the social and emotional well-being of our students while promoting positive, respectful relationships. Milgate has been running this program since its implementation.
RRRR is a Victorian Government's mandated program that aims to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful school community. It provides students with essential skills and knowledge in areas such as:
Throughout the school year, students will engage in a variety of activities, discussions, and lessons that are age-appropriate and aligned with the curriculum. These activities are designed to be interactive and engaging, ensuring that students not only learn these important concepts but also apply them in their daily lives. Attached is a rundown of the areas of focus for all topics across all year levels. If you would like more information about the RRRR program please go to the below link.

During the recent PYP Open Schools fortnight, we had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from Ballarat Grammar and Firbank Grammar to Milgate Primary School. They joined us to observe our Foundation and Year 1 Discovery sessions, where they witnessed firsthand our commitment to inquiry-based learning and student agency. It was a fantastic opportunity for our staff and students to share our innovative approaches and collaborate with fellow educators, showcasing the rich learning environment we cultivate here at Milgate. The exchange of ideas and the shared passion for creating engaging, student-centred learning experiences was truly inspiring.
Monday was International Dog Day, a perfect opportunity to celebrate our wonderful therapy dogs, Bentley and Magnolia!
These two bring so much joy and comfort to our students, creating a positive and calming presence in our school. Whether it's offering a snuggle during a tough day or simply being a friendly face in the hallways, Bentley and Magnolia have an incredible impact on our student's wellbeing. We're so grateful for their love and the difference they make daily!
