Girton Community Action Group News
Thank you
Thank you to all the students, staff and families who supported our food drive for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre last term. Together with the wider Bendigo community, this worthy initiative raised an estimated $3,500 worth of goods, which will go a long way to supporting people in need.
Upcoming events
Wear It Purple Day
We are looking forward to celebrating Wear It Purple Day at Girton on Friday 16 August. This annual event aims to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
Following the theme of 'Your Passion, Your Pride', Girton will be holding some fun activities and selling treats in the PA courtyard to support LGBTQIA+ youth.
Activities will include:
- Pride bingo
- Nail painting with a splash of purple polish
- Pride message wall, where you can write compassionate and light-hearted messages of support
- Mentos guessing game ($1 entry). How many mentos? You’ll have to guess!
In addition, $2 lolly bags and $1 wristbands can be purchased on the day (cash and card accepted).
For more information, see the Wear It Purple Days website.
RUOK? Day Netball Match and BBQ
This year, Girton will celebrate RUOK? Day on Thursday 29 August.
RUOK? is a public health charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. They contribute to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and seek help if needed.
On 29 August, the Girton Community Action Group will be holding a BBQ and a Staff vs Year 12 netball game to recognise RUOK? Day. There will also be an extended lunch.
Sausages will be available for $2 each, with a vegetarian option also available. The netball game will be held in Gym Court 1, and everyone is encouraged to come and watch to support their team. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Headspace Bendigo.
