The Prep students were very lucky to have 2 visits from the wonderful firefighters who are based out of Pascoe Vale Fire Station. The Fire Education program is an incredibly important and rewarding opportunity for students to learn about simple steps to take around fires to ensure they remain safe and what to do in the event they see or are exposed to a 'bad' fire.ย
ย
The first session was based in the classroom. We learnt about safe and unsafe fires, the purpose of a smoke alarm and what they sound like when activated, community helpers and safe meeting places.ย
ย
In the final session, the Prep students shared their 'safe meeting place' homework with the firefighters and recapped their learning from the previous session. We were then able to head out to the truck and explore the tools they used, what they were for and squirt the hoses.

What a wonderful afternoon we had with our 'special people' coming into the classroom and sharing some quality time with their children. We spent the afternoon together playing board games, completing challenges, colouring in and decorating pictures. Thank you to all the dads, grandads, uncles, mums and friends who came to visit the children. They were super excited about all the things that happened during the week, and it ended perfectly with this special afternoon and assembly.ย

I wanted to share the amazing turtles that the preps made in writing during week 9. This was part of out language experiences, students made the turtles, and then wrote a recount about them. They wrote about what materials they used and the steps they took to complete them. I'm so proud of their work.

It was an honour to welcome our families into our classrooms to showcase the wonderful work that our students have created during their Discovery time. This work, showcased their creativity, ability to plan, source materials and stick to their plans to create a piece of work.ย
ย
Students were encouraged to create something that interested them and allowed them to keep adding features that added detail to their work.

Mrs Crane organised a water watchers incursion that was run by Yarra Valley Water. This incursion taught the Preps about the importance of being sensible with water and ensuring that we save it.ย
