A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who have been reading with students in Kindergarten.
English
We are learning to:
- hear and say the sounds /kw/, /ee/ and /z/
- recognise that two letters making one sound are called digraphs:
- ‘qu’ makes the sound /kw/
- ‘ee’ makes the sound /ee/ as in ‘seen’
- ‘zz’ makes the sound /z/
- read tricky words: go, so, no, this, then
- write a simple sentence containing a subject and a verb
- identify the subject and verb in simple sentences
Mathematics
We are learning to:
- take away a smaller number from the larger number to model subtraction
- use different strategies we have learnt to solve addition and subtraction word problems
- directly compare two objects’ masses by hefting
- describe the difference between the size and mass of an object
- describe, name and make: circles, squares, triangles and rectangles.
Integrated Learning
We are learning to:
- understand that maps can be used to find your way around places
- construct a simple map to represent a place and spaces within it
- locate important places on maps.
Personal Development and Health (PDH)
We are learning to:
- recognise emotional responses that could indicate unsafe situations
- recognise appropriate touch and explore how to respond to inappropriate touch.
Visual Arts
We are learning:
- about the artist Piet Mondrian and some of his artworks
- to create maps of special people, places and events through visual representations
- to use colour, line and shape to add detail and emotion to our artworks.
