High Ability Program Celebration

Today the Grade 5/6 students who participated in the High Ability program this year went to Escape, Smash Play in Ballarat to celebrate all of their hard work and apply some of the skills that they learnt throughout the unit. Students became secret agents and were asked to break the code of a message that they had intercepted. This task was difficult, but had students using their knowledge of the English Language to determine the cipher.

Students then were able to take advantage of the Arcade room vs each other in a range of games.

In small students also had a turn at cracking codes to find a way out of an escape room. There was a variety of mind games including puzzles and codes that students had to solve to progress to the next stage. The 2 groups that completed the Pharaoh room were successful in their escape before the time ran out. Jumanji was a little more difficult, with a wide range of puzzles to solve, but students showed great persistence and came very close to completing the room. Students took to the challenge with great enthusiasm and enjoyed testing their literacy and numeracy code breaking skills.

Riley says “my favourite part of today was working with a range of students to do challenging tasks and I really liked when the mummy jumped out.”

Oscar’s “personal favourite was a puzzle in which there were different lasers and you had to match the noises.”

Overall, students came together as a team, enjoyed the challenge and had a fantastic time!
