Professional Learning Community 1 (Grade 1)

Wow! Nearly at the end of Grade 1! What an amazing year it has been.

Over the last 2 weeks we have been very busy in Grade 1! We have been lucky enough to spend some time in the Garden with a buddy class, where we complete some jobs such as picking fresh produce (including lots of cherries,) looking after the chooks, planting new plants, weeding and much more. The students loved this experience and getting out with Nature.

We also spent a week swimming at Shayne Reece. During these lessons students learnt about water safety, survival skills and the fundamentals of swimming.

During week 7, we had our in class Numero championships. Students played many games of Numero across the week, to determine the class champion. Well done to the class champions…

1A – Cooper

1B – Reece

1C – Bella

1D – Jimmy.

These 4 Grade 1 champions went into a final against Grade 2 students. Well done to Cooper who came 3rd overall for Grade ½.

We are looking forward to an amazing end of year with our students.

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Well done and a big congratulations to all Grade 3 students for completing a wonderful year of learning this year!

There have been so many achievements, memories made and milestones to celebrate. We hope that when the Grade 3s reflect on their year of 2023, they remember forging solid friendships, developing great skills and recalling fond memories.

We wish all the students and their families a happy Christmas, a wonderful New Year and a safe holiday and return the following school year recharged and refreshed.

Best wishes from the Grade 3 Team.

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grade 4)

The Grade 4s are getting excited as the weather warms up!

In Reading, we have been learning about Latin and Greek root words that help us understand the English language. This week we will be looking at Aussie slang that we use every day, we're 'stoked' about it!

In Writing, we are creating our own superheroes to write a descriptive narrative about. We've been inspired by the superheroes we see on the screen, ourselves and even the superheroes in out lives.

For Numeracy this week, we are looking at maps and scales. We listened to 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson and made our own maps by following the directions of the ladybird. We were so proud of them, we have put them in our portfolios.

That's all from the Grade 4s this week!

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

Dear Parents/carers,

The Grade 5s have had a great few weeks. Last week, we had another Health Day, where the students learnt about the dangers of drugs, smoking and vaping. They responded extremely well and positively engaged in all of the activities.

Over the past few weeks, the teachers have been working very hard writing reports. As busy as this time is, it is a moment for us to celebrate our students’ progress over the year.

In Reading this week, the Grade 5s watched the movie ‘Wonder’. We have been reading the book since Term 2 where many of our Reading and Writing sessions have been based around, so it was great to watch the movie to compare and contrast the book to the movie. The students loved it!

In Writing, we have been focusing on Space which has linked into our PBL topic this term. The students have produced some truly amazing writing which they should be very proud of.

Last week, we had an assembly for the school captain speeches. The ten Grade 5 students who spoke in front of the whole school did an absolutely amazing job. Well done to all of those students!

We also have our House Captain Speeches, which were also amazing!

Next Tuesday 12th Dec is Transition Day, this is an exciting day where the students get to meet their new teachers and spend some time in their classes for next year.

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

As we approach the end of the term, our students have been enthusiastically engaged in a variety of learning experiences, making the second last week truly memorable. Here's a brief overview of the exciting activities in Reading, Writing, and Numeracy:

Reading: In the realm of reading, our students have delved into the world of Roald Dahl, honing their fluency reading strategies. Immersed in a Dahl classic - James and the Giant Peach, they've not only sharpened their reading skills but also embraced the magic and wonder that Dahl's narratives never fail to deliver.

Writing: Creativity knows no bounds in our writing sessions! Students are currently engrossed in crafting their own free-choice narratives, drawing inspiration from prompts provided by the Literacy Shed Website. The diverse range of stories emerging showcases the unique voices and imaginative talents within our classroom.

Numeracy: In the numeracy corner, our students have taken on the challenge of exploring surface area. From calculating the surface area of different objects to hands-on activities like constructing animals from unifix blocks and investigating their surface area, our mathematicians are not just solving problems; they're building their understanding from the ground up!

Important Reminder: We would also like to remind parents about the upcoming Grade 6 Graduation Celebration on December 14th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The ceremony will be a momentous occasion, with parents invited to attend the formal part of the evening from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It's a time to celebrate the achievements of our students and the exciting journey that lies ahead for them.

As always, your support is invaluable, and we look forward to celebrating the years achievements together.
