Year 9 Odyssey Week

This year our Year 9 students celebrated another great school year with our first ever ‘Odyssey Week’. An odyssey is defined as ‘an eventful or adventurous journey or experience’ – a great way to sum up Year 9!

Students participated in a Christmas-themed scavenger hunt around the city, mini golf, First Aid training, a picnic at Ringwood Lake, exploring the Queen Victoria Market and an urban learning experience with ‘The Intersection’. ‘The Intersection’ runs interactive walks around the Melbourne CBD challenging students to meet ‘the other’ underpinned by the belief that diverse connection and empathy are vital to creating a livable city. They use stories from the city, personal experiences and relevant statistics to craft narratives that break through the stereotyping that helps fuel disconnection and social issues like homelessness, addiction and racism. Students were challenged to assess their own assumptions about homelessness, colonisation, power, addiction and connection in a thought-provoking way as they were encouraged to see the city in ways they never have before.

Odyssey Week was a week of fun, challenges and celebrations. Thanks to all the staff who supervised and ran these activities.
