The Rene Luneman Memorial Award
The Rene Luneman Memorial Award is awarded in recognition of a staff member lost in 2021.
Rene had been a teacher for more than 40 years, she grew up in Heathmont, attending Ringwood HS and returned here for the last 20 odd years of her career. She had been a teacher of English, Humanities and Psychology, with a smattering of VCAL thrown into the mix over the years. Rene loved language and was able to instil that love in others. She loved teaching and she loved working with young people, taking great pride in their accomplishments and sorrow or frustration at their setbacks.
Rene involved herself in many aspects of the education of young people, she set very high standards in her classroom and students were left in no doubt as to whether or not their work met those standards.
This student has demonstrated remarkable growth in her writing abilities throughout the past year. For someone who previously admitted to struggling with English in the past, her writing exceeds the standards of a Year 7 student, showcasing an impressive level of skill and creativity. Recently, she has enrolled in the Teenage Creative Writers’ Program, a rigorous ten-module initiative led by the Australian Writers’ Centre which centres on character development and the development of captivating narratives. This is a testament to her curiosity, passion and dedication for English – all qualities encapsulated in the Rene Luneman award.
Rene was a teacher, and writing was her passion and this is why, the 2023 Rene Luneman Memorial Writing Award goes to Milly Wyrostek

Flash Mob!
Staff were thrilled to give a surprise dance performance to the students. In a very creative way, students were also told the musical which the college will be performing in 2024 (it's Mamma Mia!). A huge thanks must go to Danielle Growse and the Performing Arts team for putting it all together!
