Year 8 Optus Digital Thumbprint

Recently the team from the Optus Digital Thumbprint program were in the classroom with our Year 8 students taking them through the fun and interactive workshops that covered important issues such as digital discernment and fake news.  Our year 8 students had attended workshops covering the topics of cybersecurity, cyberbullying during 2022 and feedback received from them was positive.

This is what some students had to say: “Learning in this program was amazing. I learnt about conspiracy theories and how to identify if the news is real or fake by checking for SAR (Source, Artist, Reliability). Jayden UDE  8A.

‘It was a worthwhile experience. The event was quite insightful with the information we learned being useful in the future.’ Kai SYMES 8E.

It is very important to be aware of these topics so that your child is prepared and supported to thrive in the digital world.  There is a range of free, downloadable Digital Thumbprint Parent Conversation Guides for parents and care-givers that support you to have effective conversations around what young people should and shouldn’t share online, cyberbullying, and how digital technology can support effective study practices.
