Christmas is a very popular festival in Indonesia. 29.1 million Christians in Indonesia celebrate Christmas with their family, friends and community. People come together to observe the birth of Christ with their own customs, traditions and special foods!  

 

Indonesian fruit and dessert tasting Christmas Party  

Indonesian students ended a brilliant year of studying language with an authentic Indonesian fruit/dessert tasting Christmas celebration. 

 

  • “I enjoyed the lychees and pineapples mocktail”, Ruby. 
  • “The Jackfruits have a unique taste but goes well with ice-cream”, Sybella 
  • “We made delicious cendol; a concoction of tropical fruits topped with coconut milk, ice cream and palm sugar syrup”, Mia and Miah. 
  • “The lychee fizzy drinks with loads of lychee fruits were amazing!”, Zach. 

 

Student teaching visit to Marlborough PS 

On 8th December, our year 8 students taught Indonesian language and culture to Marlborough primary school students. They taught them Indonesian Christmas songs, dances, language and playing the Angklung. Besides providing students with engaging opportunities to apply their Indonesian language skills, these excursions also foster closer collaboration between primary and high school students, including enabling smooth transition from primary to secondary schools. 

 

  • “Heathmont College students taught ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ in Indonesian, playing the Angklung, a traditional Indonesian musical instrument. Amazing voices. 2024 Indonesia-Bali school tour! 

 

Ayo! Bali – here we come! 

 

 

 

Heathmont College is very pleased to inform that 20 year 10 to 12 students will be travelling to Bali in March/April next year to participatein an in-country Indonesian language and cultural experience. This tour is packed with various programs aimed to enhance students’ language skills, cultural appreciation, personal development, and Asia Literacy skills. The tour allows students to immerse in the cultures and communities of our closest neighbour, including visiting sites of historical and cultural importance in this Asia Pacific region and learn about the region’s flora and fauna. Students are eagerly looking forward to the trip after being unable to do school international travel due to Covid-19!
