Aged Care Visit

In a heartwarming demonstration of community connection, Heathmont College's singing group, the Local Vocals, recently extended their musical talents to the local Menarock Life aged care centre. This initiative aimed not only to entertain but to foster meaningful intergenerational exchanges.

Our students delighted the residents with a repertoire of songs, creating an atmosphere of joy within Menarock Life. The exchange went beyond melodies, as residents generously shared life advice and wisdom with our students. The bond formed during this visit was so strong that the residents eagerly requested the Local Vocals' return, to which our students enthusiastically replied with a resounding "yes!"

The experience was both enriching and reciprocal. Not only did the residents relish the musical performances, but our students gained valuable insights and words of wisdom from the elders.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Vance and Mr. Young for their dedicated guidance throughout the year and, particularly, for steering the singing group during this impactful event. Your commitment to nurturing our young singers at Heathmont College is truly invaluable.

As we reflect on the success of this endeavour, we eagerly look forward to more opportunities in 2024 to give back to our community through the universal language of music. May this spirit of connection and generosity continue to resonate within our school and the broader Heathmont community!

On Tuesday 5 December, members of the Local Vocals and Heathmont Glee Club visited Menarock LIFE Aged Care Home to share some of the music they have been working on this year.

Students performed a medley of group and solo pieces and enjoyed speaking with residents after the performance.

During the visit, students asked residents for one piece of advice that they would go back and give their younger selves and received some beautiful and thought-provoking answers. Advice included ‘respect parents and teachers’, ‘study hard’ (which the teachers enjoyed hearing!) and to ‘always be yourself’.

Feedback was very positive, and students received a heartfelt thanks on behalf of the residents for coming and performing for the home. We were very proud of the way students conducted themselves and how well they connected with residents.

Huge thanks to Mr Bannister for organising the event and to Ms Vance for guiding students through their performances. We’re looking forward to continuing this relationship with Menarock LIFE next year!
