Learning Community 1

Jane Guy, Amie Parker and Kate Stoll

Over the past two weeks we have been completing our assessments and I am so very proud of all Prep Guy students who have tried really hard with their learning. Well done everyone.

In Reading we are practising to read like we talk, fluently and expressively, reading the authors punctuation. In Writing we are working on our own Christmas narrative and in Maths we have completed our 2024 calendar complete with special celebrations on each month, plus finding our birthdays for next year. This calendar can then be used next year with art work from your child to dress up your home. On Monday we welcomed Kinder students to our assembly and we also learnt about World Kindness Day, deciding on kind acts we could complete during the week. On Friday we had our last session with the CASEA team who have been teaching us about the zones of regulation. This week on Monday all staff learnt a lot about trauma in students and how to help them with lots of different strategies. On Tuesday we welcomed the 2024 Kinder children to a PMP session. Thank you to my very special helpers Prep Guy and Grade 5 students who assisted with each station.

Students Of The Week

Last week students in Prep Guy voted for Hunter to be our Student Of The Week. Students said Hunter was respectful, treating others the way he would like to be treated.

This week students voted for Fletch. Students said Fletch is responsible and does the right thing.

Well done Hunter and Fletch; we are very proud of you.

We have started on our Christmas decorations for the best-decorated Classroom competition.  It's not quite finished, but here is a sneak peek of our handmade Christmas tree. (Pardon the pun)

One/ Two Miss Stoll & Mrs Parker

We have had a great two weeks in our classrooms. We have begun creating Christmas decorations and we're so excited for our Christmas afternoon our Parents & Friends group have organised. Both classrooms are eager to win the competition for the best dressed door/ wall.

In reading we have been reviewing our comprehension strategies for reading, particularly making connections, visualizing and questioning.

In writing we have been explored sentence structure and punctuation. We have specifically been focusing on using punctuation correctly at the end of sentences and what punctuation needs to be used when, as well as exploring different types of sentences, such as compound and even some complex sentences.

In maths we have been reviewing our addition strategies and have spent more time reviewing the split strategy addition strategy and vertical addition with and without regrouping. We have also reviewed place value and skip counting concepts.

Congratulations to Charli, Ollie and Elise who have been our student achievers over the last two weeks. Well done champions!

Only 31 sleeps until the big man comes! We are SO ready for Christmas & Summer holidays!
