Club de Español
We had an effusive and explosive experience this week at the Spanish club. We talked about the different types of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous, and we could see them and feel them. All the kids were able to touch the rocks and learn slightly about them. But then we moved into volcanic rocks and some landforms. In addition, we talked about some of the lava flows and their names like A'a (ah, ah!) because it is very rough, jagged and clinker, the name comes from the Hawaiian first people.
Then we moved onto the explosive part of volcanoes! We were able to see how pumice floats while the rest of the volcanic rocks sink. We also saw volcanic ash and the very famous (to everyone on Minecraft) obsidian, but carefully as it can be very sharp.
Lastly we made a volcano erupt right at the school ground. We did several effusive (non-explosive) eruptions, and we attempted to do at least one explosive eruption in which the "lava" went up a few meters.
It was a lovely and engaging activity for kids and carers!

Our Spanish Club is a wonderful opportunity for our children to practice Spanish, have fun and connect with each other outside the classroom.
We are looking for more parent and carer volunteers to help us organizing the next round of activities en Español. There are no limits to what we can do! Activities could include outdoor games, crafts, cooking, art, sports, music, games or anything else you think the children would enjoy.

We encourage parents to talk about the activities with their children before coming along, so they can choose something they are genuinely interested in and excited to participate in.
Remember: Everyone is welcome! Our Spanish Club is an open club run by volunteer parents, reason why we ask that every child attending is accompanied by an adult- The adult must accompany the child and be present during the activity. This helps us keep the activities safe, enjoyable and manageable for everyone.
Important Note:
If you are unable to attend and your child will be under a different adult's care, we require you to send us an email to: spanishsubcommittee.nps@gmail.com by 3 pm on Monday before the Club. Unattended children will be taken to the school's office and they have to be picked up from there. This measure will be taken for everyone's safety.
