Foundation

Students are learning about movement and forces through hands-on investigations of pushes and pulls. They are exploring how objects slide, roll and bounce and experimenting with materials to see how different surfaces and forces affect the way objects move. Students are developing their predicting, observation and recording skills as they test and compare how various materials speed up, slow down, or change the direction of moving objects.

1/2

Students are investigating sound energy this term. They are exploring how sounds are made through vibrations and experimenting with different materials and objects to discover how pitch and volume can be changed. Students are developing their understanding of how sound travels and are conducting investigations to explore the properties of sound in their everyday environment.

3/4

Students are studying heat energy and learning how heat is produced, transferred and used in everyday life. They are investigating how different materials conduct or insulate heat and exploring the ways heat energy can transfer between objects. Students are conducting experiments to observe and measure temperature changes, building their understanding of how heat affects the world around them.

5/6

Students are exploring light energy this term and will be investigating how light travels, reflects and refracts. They are learning about how we see colour and are conducting experiments with mirrors, lenses and different materials to explore how light behaves.
