Health and Wellbeing

It has been a great start to Term 3 in Health and Wellbeing! Across the school, students have now begun exploring how everyday choices can support their health and wellbeing. While each year level is looking at this through a different lens, all students are learning that looking after our bodies and minds involves lots of small habits that work together.

Foundation

Our Foundation students are learning about healthy habits such as drinking water, getting enough sleep, eating a variety of healthy foods and keeping our bodies active. Through stories, games and some new Health and Wellbeing characters, students will discover simple ways they can help their bodies stay healthy and strong.

Year 1/2

The Year 1/2 students are becoming "Lunchbox Detectives"! They are exploring the different food groups and learning how a balanced lunch gives us the energy we need to learn, play and concentrate throughout the day. Students will also be discussing why water is our best drink choice and how healthy habits help us feel our best.

Year 3/4

Students in Years 3/4 have begun investigating the different parts of a healthy lifestyle. They have explored how sleep, physical activity, nutrition and hydration all work together to support both physical and mental wellbeing. Students are beginning to think critically about how their own daily choices can influence their health.

Year 5/6

Our Year 5/6 students are developing their understanding of health information by exploring common health myths and misconceptions. They are learning how to identify reliable sources of information and are creating campaigns that encourage others to make informed, healthy choices based on evidence rather than social media trends or popular opinion.

How You Can Help at Home

Healthy habits are easiest to build when children see them modelled at home. Here are a few simple ways you can reinforce our learning:

  • Foundation: Talk about one healthy choice your family made each day, such as drinking water, going for a walk or getting an early night's sleep.
  • Year 1/2: Ask your child to explain the different food groups and invite them to help pack a balanced lunchbox or choose a healthy afternoon snack.
  • Year 3/4: Encourage your child to reflect on one healthy habit they are doing well and one they would like to improve. Small changes can make a big difference.
  • Year 5/6: When you hear health advice online or in advertisements, discuss it together. Ask questions like, "Who is sharing this information?" or "How do we know if it's true?" to encourage critical thinking.

Thank you for your continued support. I love seeing students across the school becoming more confident in making positive choices for their own health and wellbeing.
