Wellbeing MattersÂ

As the school holidays approach, it's important to acknowledge that this time can be both refreshing and challenging for students. The change in routine, potential isolation, and lack of structured support can impact mental health. Here are some strategies to help students maintain their wellbeing during the break:
đż Maintain a Healthy Routine
- Stay Active: Encourage regular physical activity, such as walking to boost mood and energy levels. Going outside for some fresh air for clarity.
- Balanced Diet: Promote healthy eating habits to support physical and mental health. Try your best to keep to scheduled eating times, this will help when school resumes.
- Sleep Schedule: Maintain consistent sleep patterns to ensure adequate rest and recovery. Now this one can be a tough one to maintain during holidays, but as a suggestion try to resume normal sleep habits 4 days before coming to school.
𧠠Foster Social Connections
- Stay Connected: Encourage regular communication with friends and family through calls, messages, or video chats.
- Join Activities: Participate in community events or online groups to meet new people and reduce feelings of isolation.
đ¨Â Engage in Meaningful Activities
- Pursue Hobbies: Support involvement in creative or recreational activities that bring joy, such as art, music, or volunteering.
- Set Personal Goals: Set a goal or a task you would like to complete during the holidays.
đ§Â Practice Mindfulness and Self-Care
- Mindfulness Techniques: Introduce practices like meditation or deep breathing exercises to manage stress. Find some music that helps you relax.
- Relaxation Time: Encourage moments of relaxation, such as reading, journaling, or spending time in nature.Â
đ Access Support When Needed
- Reach Out: If feelings of stress, anxiety, or depression arise, encourage seeking support from trusted adults, your GP or mental health professionals.
- Emergency Contacts: Remember there are helplines available and online resources for immediate assistance (see poster). In case of emergency call 000 or present to your nearest hospital.
I would like to wish everyone a fantastic last week of school. Enjoy your break, have fun, be safe and reach out for support if needed.
