Grade 5/6 BioCats Excursion

Yesterday our Year 5 and Year 6 students joined some classes from Buninyong to attend the BioCats excursion in Geelong. BioCATS is a partnership program run by BioLAB and the Geelong Cats. The program explores how scientists, mathematicians and technology is used to help athletes analyse and refine their performance and technique. Students participated in scientific experiments, using problem solving, statistical analysis and observation skills to learn about the science and math of football and career pathways in sport. This program also reinforces the concepts of health and wellness and the benefits that come from sport participation. Students also loved the opportunity to have a tour of GMHBA stadium.

Busy Friday Ahead!

Friday June 20

This Friday we have a jam-packed day. Please make sure you have a good read below so that we are all prepared for the day:

  • Both classes will start the day at the Buninyong Campus for their First Aid sessions. These sessions are run by St John Ambulance, who offer free, age-appropriate first aid training for students through their First Aid in Schools program. When our students are not in First Aid training, we will utilise the library to have a read and borrow some books. We will then bus back to Scotsburn at recess.

  • Back at Scotsburn from 12:00pm, we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to receive a free art workshop incursion, run by the Art Gallery of Ballarat. SC1 will have their session from 12:00pm to 1:30pm, and SC2 from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. The sessions run by the Art Gallery will have a reconciliation-based theme, to build on our work during Reconciliation Week. We can’t wait for these sessions.

  • Normal pick up arrangements will be from Scotsburn at 3:30pm

  • Due to the Art Incursion, we will have to postpone this week’s Family Group session

100 Nights of Reading

A huge congratulations to our Scotsburn students who have reached 100 nights of home reading as part of their weekly homework.  This is a wonderful achievement!

Not only is regular reading an important skill to practise in order to form strong study habits and routines; regular reading helps to build vocabulary and knowledge, which assists students in all subject areas at school, along with many important life skills.

We strongly encourage all students to ensure that regular reading at home is part of their routine.

Parent Teacher Conferences and 3-Way Conversations

A reminder that our Parent Conference bookings open on Compass this week. We would love to see as many parents book in as possible to discuss their child’s progress as well as hear about all of the wonderful learning and achievements that have taken place this semester.

If the times available do not fit your schedule, please contact your child’s teacher and they will be more than happy to arrange an alternative time.

Lunchtime club

With the colder weather now setting in, we want to remind everyone that our Lunchtime Club continues to run each and every day in the shed, as a calm, warm and cooperative play option. Our ES staff do an amazing job coordinating this and we know that it is a very appreciated option on these cold and wintery days.

EcoLinc Incursion

This week, our class took part in an exciting online incursion called “Creatures and Their Features”. Students enjoyed learning about the fascinating adaptations of different sea creatures through engaging videos and were full of curiosity, asking many thoughtful questions. The team from the Great Barrier Reef shared lots of interesting facts about marine life.

This incursion supported our literacy learning beautifully, as we have been exploring non-fiction texts about sea animals and identifying key features such as diagrams, labels, and fact boxes. It was a great way to connect real-world learning with our classroom focus.

Maths Chance and Probability

Last week in Maths, SC2 began to explore chance experiments and the likelihood of events occurring. We learnt lots about the difference between theoretical probability and relative frequency, and we compared the two when completing some chance experiments. Students have loved applying this work in practical real-life ways.

Have another awesome week everyone,

Jarrod and Liz

Toastie Tuesdays!

Another reminder that Toastie Tuesdays will continue every Tuesday, for the hefty price of $1! Remember to send a gold coin on Tuesdays for those that would like a Toastie.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
