Middle years - Term 3 Weeks 1 & 2 

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been reading the novel ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. The students have also been researching the properties and characteristics of iron to help develop their information report writing. 

During spelling and grammar lessons, we have been focusing on words with the suffixes ‘ful’ and ‘ness’. 

Maths

In Maths, we have been reinforcing our learning in multiplication and division. The students have been breaking apart worded problems using the CUBES method and using bar modelling to visually represent and solve problems.

Religion

In Religion, we have begun our topic ‘Jesus’ Parables’ in which we explore the messages found in scripture which challenge us to live how Jesus lived. Students will be focusing their learning around ‘The Parable of the Sower’ and relating the messages found to their own lives. 

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we have started out new topic, ‘What Makes Us Healthy?’ This will allow students to learn about a range of strategies to help keep themselves both physically and mentally healthy as well as investigate their own area of interest later in the term. 

At home you can reinforce learning by:

• Reading independently for 20 minutes each night  
• Practicing multiplication tables using flashcards  
• Investigating words using the suffix ‘ful’ and ‘ness’ and using them in sentences  
• Practicing joined handwriting using hoizontal joins between the letters a, c, r, i, l.
