5/6I Student Learning

Presented by Avila and Mazenod Colleges
On Wednesday, the 23rd of July, the Year 4’s and 5’s went on an excursion to the Monash University to watch Avila and Mazenod perform a play called ‘The High School Musical’. The performance was about two high schoolers named Troy and Gabriella. Gabriella was a new student at her school. Troy met Gabriella and they sang together at the school musical. I liked the musical because the songs were really catchy. We even got the characters autographs! We also saw some past St Leonards students at the musical. An orchestra was under the stage playing their music under a net. After the musical, we came back to school at 2:00pm. Overall, the day was really fun and exciting.

On Wednesday the Year 5’s and and the Year 4’s students all went to the Avila and Mazenod production of High school musical. It was interesting to see how much effort and dedication was needed to put the play together. The star roles of the play were Troy and Gabriella because they good singers and they both fit well in their roles. The whole play was full of songs and good dance moves to match all the sets they used. We got to get signatures from some of the actors. We all came back at 2:00pm and mostly everyone loved the musical because people could sing along.

In our sports lesson on the 2nd of June we had a professional basketball player named Naya and Anita from the WNBL come to our school to teach the girls in my class some basketball skills! The drills we did were amazing. My favourite one is where we had to bounce the ball around the cones racing against one another! We also played some games against each other, and my team won! Naya even joined in with us and it was a blast. I learned a lot from them like how to bounce the ball between my legs, shoot a 3-pointer and I learned all the rules. At the end they gave us an fidget spinner and they were so nice. It was so fun and I can't wait until we play basketball again!

Last term on Wednesday the 2nd of July the girls got a surprise in our P.E lesson! An experienced player from the WNBL, Naya and her team's coach, Anita, were there. Anita and Naya had planned out lots of engaging basketball drills for us to use during the lesson. Such as dribbling through cones, shooting goals, dribbling through our legs and much more! Anita would give us the directions for the drill/game while Naya would demonstrate and answer questions. About 15minutes before the lesson conclusion we finished off with a game that was definitely both competitive and humbling at the same time. Both Anita and Naya were super gentle with us knowing that most of us girls hadn't played basketball before. At the end they gave out a basketball fidget spinner as a souvenir. Overall it was a super fun and an exciting experience to end of the term with.
