Inquiry Learning is more than just play

Step into our junior school classrooms, and you will notice something special. There is a hum of curiosity in the air, wide eyes focused on discovery, and hands reaching for materials, books, or even magnifying glasses. This is inquiry learning in action - a dynamic approach to education that sparks questions, deepens understanding, and empowers young learners to take charge of their own learning journey.

At its core, learning through Inquiry is about encouraging students to ask questions, explore ideas, and investigate problems in a hands-on, student-driven way. Rather than passively receiving information, children become active participants in their education. Teachers guide and support the process, helping students develop skills in thinking critically, collaborating with peers, and communicating their discoveries.

Anyone can step by and become involved.  Recently, Principal Monique Corcoran had her ‘nails done’ by Year 2 students at the ‘Nail Salon’.  The exchange of pretend money for the services, problem-solving and chatting about the service being provided highlighted real-life experiences.  Quite often the Assistant Principals’ office will have a special delivery of delicious felt pizzas, prompting discussion of measurement, technique and personal  hygiene. Inquiry learning through play is the way young children learn about, make sense of and explore the world.

Year 4 Indigenous Craft Market Maths Project

A small group of Year 4 students participated in an extension maths program with Mrs Swarn Lamba. Students explored indigenous cultural traditions creating a simulated craft market to engage in mathematical skills, design and creativity.  Students thoroughly enjoyed their learning with Mrs Lamba and gained valuable mathematical real world experiences.

Please come and see our work on display on the Wall of Excellence 🏆

NAPLAN Reports

Students in Year 3 and 5 have received their NAPLAN paper reports. Please keep these in a safe place as the school does not keep copies on record. If you have not received your child’s NAPLAN report please see your child’s classroom teacher.

Being a Principal is more than just a title

Being a principal is about more than managing a school — it is about shaping a community. It means being a leader, mentor, advocate, and role model all at once. A principal sets the tone, not just for learning, but for the culture of respect, growth, and care that defines a school.

I firmly believe that a principal:

  • Leads with vision – seeing not just what a school is, but what it can become
  • Listens with heart – understanding the needs of students, staff, and families
  • Builds relationships – creating trust through consistent, compassionate leadership
  • Guides with integrity – making decisions that reflect core values, even when they're hard
  • Champions growth – for students, for teachers, and for the school as a whole
  • Holds space for resilience – turning challenges into opportunities for learning and unity

Being a principal is not just a position — it is a responsibility to lead with purpose, and to leave a lasting, positive impact on everyone who walks through the school gates.

On behalf of the entire LPS community, I wish to thank the Assistant Principal’s for their inspiring leadership and unwavering dedication.  LPS Assistant Principal’s lead with kindness, fairness, and vision - creating a school where every student feels safe, supported, and encouraged to grow.  They model the school values not just in words, but in their actions every day, and we are better because of it.

On Thursday 31st August, the staff of Lyndhurst PS hosted Australian’s Biggest Morning Tea, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

This was a great opportunity for us to come together, knowing that at different times in our lives we have supported someone with cancer, or lost a loved one to cancer.

All of the funds raised ($517.65!!!) will be donated to the Cancer Council.
