The vital role of parental and adult support in nurturing student wellbeing and education

Parental and adult involvement is an important influence in a child’s academic success and overall wellbeing. When parents actively engage in their children’s education, it fosters a supportive environment that enhances learning and personal development. This collaboration between home and school not only bolsters academic achievement but also promotes emotional and social growth.

There are many benefits of active parental and adult engagement and many ways to deliver this support at home. However, sometimes this can be a bit more difficult during the children’s adolescent stages of life. Having some assistance and tools to use in helping our children is always beneficial. Every family and child is different and there is no ‘one size’ fits all solution. Recognising the importance of parental support, several programs are available to assist Saltwater parents in enhancing their skills and fostering positive family dynamics.

1. Free Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Triple P offers parents practical strategies to build strong, healthy relationships and confidently manage their children’s behaviour. This evidence-based program is designed to prevent and treat behavioural and emotional problems in children and teenagers. For more information, visit the Triple P website.

• We have also been offered the opportunity to run Tuning into Teens – Parents Program in Term 2 locally, specifically designed for multicultural/newly arrived cohorts.

The program supports parents with a range a tools they can use to build a better connection with their teenagers and support them through their emotions and challenging times.

The program can run for 10-12 parents, and it is free. It would be for 6 weeks x 3 hours per week, during the daytime in the local Saltwater community centre. We can engage an interpreter and have translated materials for the group too. If you are interested, please let us know ASAP at the school.

Engaging in these programs can empower parents with the knowledge and tools to support their children’s educational journey and overall wellbeing. By working together, we can create a nurturing environment that promotes the success and happiness of our students.
