Year Four

Our inquiry journeys are officially beginning! After a thoughtful self-reflection regarding the Learner Profile Attributes, students identified their personal strengths and potential goals, preparing them with a self-awareness and understanding that the inquiry journey is not just about the destination, but how you get there, and who you do it with!

Reading

The Year 4 students have made great strides in their reading skills this term, focusing on predicting, questioning, and clarifying as they read. They practised asking questions before, during, and after reading to enhance their understanding of the text. Through these activities, they developed a deeper comprehension and were able to clarify any confusing parts of the story. It's been impressive to see how well the children have applied these skills, showing great improvement in their reading confidence and enjoyment. These skills are continuously modelled by the teachers, through class novels and mentor texts.

Writing

Students are beginning to embark on exciting writing journeys as they gather seeds in their Writer's Notebooks. These are personalised and provide voice and agency to the students when participating in writer's workshop. Students have been working on narrowing the focus of an idea and exploding a moment. This has led to an exploration into a variety of ways of planning, such as the 'Story Mountain' and the 'Five Ws and an H.' They're looking forward to getting their ideas on paper and moving onto the following step in the writing process, drafting.

Math

Our world is filled with two and three dimensional shapes, which the Year 4 students explored inside and outside of the classroom. This is one of the most important concepts that students should understand, the real-life connection and applications of their learning in Mathematics.

ICT

In Year 4 we have explored the Digital Technology Agreement, learning about the appropriate use of the MacBooks both in and out of school. The children practiced key skills for using their devices safely and responsibly.  We’re excited to see what creative projects the children will produce with their newfound skills!

A reminder MacBooks should come to school fully charged each day, due to OHS regulations, we are unable to charge student MacBooks at school.
