What a fabulous fortnight we have had at Rangeview! The heat continues and the school has been buzzing with activity. Our Level 6 students went to Coonawarra Farm Resort, our Lego Club commenced with sessions for Levels 1, 2, 3 & 4, our teaching staff participated in further professional learning on the Building Thinking Classrooms model, our Foundation students had their Pirate Penguin Party and had a visit from the Fire Fighters, our Level 5/6 had an Olympian visit, our entire Senior School had the annual Athletics Carnival, and our Principal Team attended both the Inner East Principal Forum and the Riversdale Network Forum.
On Wednesday 28th February, Liam Sommers, Kate McLeod and I attended the Inner East Principal Forum in Doncaster. Together with Principals and Assistant Principals from schools across the whole of the inner east, we were given a state-wide update for government schools. We had a session on Implementing the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, and a session looking at Department of Education supports for Occupational Health and Safety.
Some excellent data around the achievements of students in Victorian schools was shared.
On Tuesday this week we held our annual Senior School Athletics Carnival. It was a fabulous day with students in Levels 3 - 6 all competing in a range of track and field events. We celebrated effort and giving everything a go. It was wonderful to see so many students trying really hard and supporting each other.
Thank you to all of the parent helpers, the year 11 students from Vermont Secondary College, and the wonderful Rangeview staff - who collectively made this day such a success. A huge thank you to our formidable PE team - Meg Hubbard and Mitch Clark who planned and ran the day.
Our wonderful Class Ambassadors are now in place for 2025 and every grade has an ambassador or several ambassadors to represent them. The main roles of a Class Ambassador is to encourage parent involvement in the school community, promote Parent and Friends activities, be a contact for families and distribute the contact details that have been collated by the school.
During the year Class Ambassadors are encouraged to organise catch-ups (either dinners or coffees). These opportunities to meet and get to know other parents are beneficial to everyone. They are particularly important for new families in Foundation, new families joining the school community throughout the year, as well as parents who work during the day.
Having a Class Ambassador also enables communication and organisation between the teachers and families in relation to classroom helpers and other activities, including excursions etc. The Class Ambassador will decide the best way to get communication to the parents in their Class. It could be by email, text message or setting up a “what’s App” group. Please ensure any group chats are supportive, inclusive and appropriate.
If you are not sure who your child's class ambassador(s) are, please speak to your classroom teacher.
We look forward to meeting lots of families at our Welcome Soiree on Wednesday 12th March at the Heatherdale Cricket Pavilion. This event is open to all families and is a child free event.
Thanks to the Their Care Team for providing our Charcuterie on the night.
We again ask families to be respectful and mindful when dropping off and picking up at the school. Please do not park across driveways and observe all of the parking street signage. With more than 450 families we are aware that it is busy at the start and end of the day - we want our students to be safe as they enter and leave the grounds, and we want our neighbours to be able to access and leave their homes. We thank our community for their support in this.
